questions re: tinyumbrella
Hi all,
i got my iPhone4 with 4.0.1(8A306) and modem firmware 01.59.00. i'm planning to jailbreak and unlock it. i know i need to save my SHSH in order to restore back to 4.0.1 in the future. however, i hv a few questions regarding using tinyumbrella.
i understand that apple has stopped signing 4.0.1 on aug 19,2010. does that mean if i save my SHSH now, i can only get a SHSH for 4.1? Will i be able to request the 4.0.1 SHSH by choosing iPhone4 4.0.1 in the advanced option box via request from Cydia ?? (it showed iPhone4 4.1(8A306) by default in the request version box)
another question : when i open tinyumbrella, it showed a ECID automatically... is that the ECID on my phone ? or i need to actually check my phone to confirm it and reset it manually ??
thanks in advance !!

Questions have all been answered before or can be answered by reading the TinyUmbrella documentation.
You are simply too late for a 4.0.1 SHSH..
However.. TinyUmbrella has another feature that can block baseband upgrade. This ONLY works on the iPhone 4 and ONLY when your restore is done via TinyUmbrella's TSS server (or via Cydia's TSS server - I haven't confirmed this).
So.. backup your 4.1 SHSH with TinyUmbrella and when you do decide to restore to 4.1 (we don't really recommend upgrading, restore works best if you have already jailbroken 4.0.1) use TinyUmbrella's TSS server (even if Apple is still signing 4.1) this will block the upgrade of baseband.
TinyUmbrella uses the same programming call that iTunes uses to get the ECID. This requires that the iPhone be plugged in and in normal mode (not in recovery or DFU mode)
Due to the way the SHSH request system is designed on the iPhone 4, you MUST have the iPhone plugged in and detected by TinyUmbrella when you click on Get my SHSH. On older iPhones, it was enough to manually paste in the ECID value - and click get my SHSH, you didn't even need to physically have the iPhone.
