Default Problems with trying to update FW to 4.3.3 from 4.2.1 using Pwnage tool 4.3.3

I am having some issues / problems trying to update my FW to 4.3.3 from 4.2.1 using Pwnage tool 4.3.3 and making my custom firmware...etc. I was wondering if any others are having the same? I have followed the iclarified "step by step instructions", however it does not work for my iP4

I am on BB 1.59.00, Iphone4. I was from the factory, on FW 4.0.2, and used pwnage tool for the first time to update it to 4.2.1 a while back from the original 4.0.2. I then preserved my baseband and hold it to this day. I am on ATT in the US and I have left the activate phone unchecked the last time using pwnage tool and now this time too.

When I try to restore, I get an error saying this phone is not qualified for this firmware, this message came via itunes when it checked with apple.

I then opened up Tiny Umbrella, and went to the advanced tab and unchecked the "send to Cydia" tab which it stated what one does if after a fresh restore from Apple (I have been saving all SHSH Blobs vis TU) After doing this, I took the phone back into DFU mode and tried to restore the custom firmware a second time with the adjustment in TU and I still could not get it to go past this check with Apple. This time I got a Message: Unknown Error 1600.

Would anyone by chance be able to let me know where I am messing things up. The first time using Pawnage tool for FW 4.3.1 it was smooth as silk, no problems, this time around I have not been so fortunate. Luckily the phone restores to normal after both errors doing a hard reset, so I have not lost use of the phone.

    Cheers for any help.

The second time, did you use Pwnagetool to put the phone into pwned DFU mode?

That indeed was my issue, I did not realize there were 2 different DFU modes....

I will now install a few Cydia apps, but will not go crazy like my last attempt where it made my OS buggy, slow, and some apps were crashing...

Is there a recommendation on what mobile substrate apps in cydia one should stay away from as it makes the OS slow, etc? I really like SBSettings and a few others but only wish to install if I know my performance is not reduced to dramatically. I also notice a lot of apps in cydia are for older FW's and I guess this can mess this can mess things up quickly....

One last issue is Ultrasnow, I have not yet installed it, I am on ATT, but I did the last time. My signal strength right now does not work until I do install it (known issue), but once I do, my MMS messages can no longer be sent. Are these my only 2 options, either have no signal strength, or no MMS, depending if I install Ultrasnow or not?

Thanks Olethros as usual for any guidance in these maters, much appreciated.

I don't have any solution for the signal strength/ultrasn0w issue. That's something only the devteam can develop.

Yes there are quite a few cydia store apps that aren't yet tested on 4.3.x - what you can do is "subscribe" for change notifications for these apps via Cydia. The next time you open Cydia and it refreshes data, if any of these apps have been updated you will be prompted about this and given an option to install the new version.

Also check the developer's web site/blog/twitter for updates regarding compatibility.
