want to update - currently on 3.1.3 3Gs old bootrom

I have factory unlocked 3Gs old bootrom, i want to update to iOS 4 and be able to jailbreak only. I am currently on 3.1.3 jailbroken with Spirit,

With so many things on the net, i am confused which could be the best and safe way to do so, can someone please suggest me which method could i use to to upgrade and jailbreak.

I have my shsh for 3.1.2 3.1.3 and 4 saved on cydia.

Good work on saving so many SHSH blobs - wish every 3GS owner was as prepared.

If you are 100% sure you are old bootrom (checking the serial number is not good enough) then you have two options.

Option #1

1. Spirit2pwn - this will low level pwn your iPhone Jailbreak iPhone 3GS iOS 4 which is Jailbroken Using Spirit with Spirit2Pwn | Redmond Pie
2. pwnagetool to 4.0 iClarified - iPhone - How to Jailbreak Your iPhone 3GS Using PwnageTool (Mac) [4.0]

Option #2

1. use SHSH to downgrade to 3.1.2 Hack that Phone - iPhone 3G S: Restoring "forbidden" firmware
2. pwnagetool to 4.0 iClarified - iPhone - How to Jailbreak Your iPhone 3GS Using PwnageTool (Mac) [4.0]

Could someone please help me out. I don't know whether or not I should Jailbreak my iPhone 3GS. Here is what f0recast told me about my phone:

You can jailbreak 4.0 or 4.0.1 on your device through several methods. The easiest is to upgrade to 4.0.1 and go to JailbreakMe on the device, then you're done.
