I talked to a genius about the new unlocked iphone 4. I mentioned the fact that I bought a non commitment iphone a few months back and wanted to know if I can have my iphone unlocked since now apple sells them unlocked.
Procedure to unlock non commitment iphones.
1. Update to latest and greatest iTunes
2. Restore iphone4 (insert sim other than AT&T)
3. Accept itunes procedure for activation with new sim inserted.
Enjoy your unlocked iphone 4

This sounds REALLY interesting.. and risky also at the same time, would like to know if anyone has tried it! Whos willing to take one for the team?
I've tried it with version 4.2.1 didn't work... Unless he wants me to fully update the iPhone aswell as the iTunes. But i ain't risking it so if anyone else tries it and works let me know :)
Make sure you bought a "no commitment" iphone, otherwise your iphone via itunes will not be unlocked. You do have to restore your phone with the latest itunes with a different chip and not AT&T.Quote:

What I am a bit doubtful about is the need to "restore to latest iOS" or even "restore your iPhone". The brilliant aviegas posted instructions a while back that allow you to trigger a "reactivation" without a restore (and even how to "rollback" if iTunes refused to let you activate for some reason). You must be careful to disable any passcode on your phone first though (otherwise it probably won't work and you WILL have to restore your iPhone to get it working again).
