A thing or two about requesting UDID registration
Before you ask or pay for a UDID registration, make sure you are aware of the following:
- Apple has only made available firmwares for these iPhone/iPod touch models: iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G (no multitasking support), iPod touch (3rd gen) and iPod touch (2nd gen). If you have iPhone 2G and you want to install this firmware, you are out of luck. You will only be wasting your money (or if it's free, a UDID slot that someone else can use).
- If you don't have access to an Intel-based Mac, forget it. As far as i can tell, iPhone OS 4.0 installation requires an Intel-based Mac. Installing it on a windows-based PC will result in error 13.
- A Beta release is what it is. It is buggy and not all the features touted by Apple are working/implemented.
- If iPhone OS 4.0 beta is like iPhone OS 3.0 beta, then it will have an expiry date. If i remember correctly, a beta release usually expires a week or two after the release of a new beta. Your device will stop functioning completely when the beta has expired. If you don't have easy access to iPhone OS 4.0 beta releases, i don't recommend installing the 4.0 beta.
