Got an IP4 locked to 4.1.... what do i do not to screw things up

The guy never even took it out of the box, if i put a different carrier will it work or do they lock it somehow without taking it out of the box or putting in a sim?

also he said it comes with 4.1 but I will need to upgrade to 4.2 is this true? or can i ignore this step when first setting up the phone?


I ask because i got the phone on contract cus i lost mine, but the 2nd contract was for a different carrier... I want to know what i need to do to unlock it for the carrier i need without screwing up.

You don't need to update to 4.2 (no one is forcing you to). It won't help you either.

Next time, search - there is no unofficial unlock for 2.10.04 or higher baseband on the iPhone 4. As your phone is locked to AT&T (who refuse to authorize unlocks) you have pretty much zero options. (Except harass AT&T a lot)
