    Nice!

So, is there a way of using it without a Developer Account?

    Right now, I envy you

Share the beef, put a couple comments about your thoughts, what's cool and what's not. Obviously, after you try it

I'm downloading the 4.0 now and have my UUID on a legit dev account -- still not sure I'm going to upgrade to it just yet. Only thing I use my jailbreak for at this stage is SMS tone changing, SBSettings, and 5 icon dock... But my phone is my daily driver and as someone who spent a lot of time mucking with the 3.0 betas, I'm not necessarily sure I want to go through all that hassle again

JSN1, we're all waiting with bated breath to hear your results

    Right.

    My hardware: iPhone 3GS 32GB 4.0

    - It feels really snappy! I was amazed with the transitions.
    - The background looks really nice!!
    - Double click home screen button, multitasking bar comes, pop an icon, bam, you're there.
    - Camera!! Zoom! Nice! It looks a bit pixelated at the top zoom level. Tap on the screen, a little bar comes up.
    - Photos are taken faster than in previous versions, this is really nice for taking a couple of shots.
    - Buggy, I had around 5 crashes on 20 minutes. (Well, I was trying off every new thing).
    - Unified inbox actually looks nice!
    - Nothing new for calendars.
    - Notes is different, everything is organized depending on your account, not sure if this syncs over the air, maybe mobileme.
    - I have been unable to create a new folder for apps... And it looks like iTunes 9.1 deletes them...

Ohhh. I forgot about Photos... This is really nice but I won't spoil it. There are 4 new REALLY GOOD for it... I would rename it iPhoto Mobile.

For those who are thinking about updating....

    GO AHEAD!!

But, please backup everything and restore, I have never recommended using update for new betas, to avoid troubles.

As the last year, I will register UDIDs again. Contact me.

    I haven't tried.

As far as I can remember almost all betas required this.

Default iPhone 4.0 beta 1 update successful!

    iPhone hardware: iPhone 3GS 32-GB, model MB717LL
    Before update: iPhone 3.1.2 jailbroken/unlocked using Geohot's blackra1n, AT&T profile 5.6, modem firmware 05.11.07
iPhone 4.0 update time using a MacBook Air: 13 minutes
After update: iPhone 4.0 AT&T profile 6.0, modem firmware 05.13.03

My original lockscreen wallpaper is replaced by a 4.0 wallpaper (water droplets glass with grey background).

    My observations:
    - When selecting app from home screen, the wallpaper expand outward at almost the same rate as the app expanding.
    - New Game Center icon
    - There is a character count option for Messages settings but it does not appear to be working.
    - Home Button setting now only leads to "Search Results". No option for double-clicking it to open the camera app or ipod.
    - Location Services setting now shows apps that you have allowed Location services, with option to turn them on/off.
    - Multitasking appears to be working well. Of course your apps have to be multi-tasking aware, otherwise, putting them in "background" and selecting them again just means restarting the app from scratch.
    - Double-clicking launch a menu bar for apps that you have launched. To remove an app from this menu bar, press and hold on the icon for the app until red badge for removing this app shows up. Touching the red badge removes the app from the menu bar.

    More observations:
    - As mentioned by JSN1, camera app now has a horizontal digital zoom scroll bar. Scroll to the right to zoom in.
    - There is no zoom option available when in the video mode. I am not sure if this feature was available pre-4.0, but once the video recording starts, touching the screen will cause the camera to focus on the area you touched.
    - The following Apple apps appear to be multi-tasking aware:
-->Settings (it remembers where you were previously when you go back into it)
-->Photos (like Settings, it remembers where you were)
    - Every app i launched is placed in the multi-tasking menu bar. If you have more than four, you can scroll left or right. This begs the question: if i have launched 50 apps, there will be a lot of scrolling. So what's the point of putting an app on this menu bar if the app is not multi-tasking capable ?
    - Photos app now include a menu at the bottom for you to choose from: albums, events, faces, places. When i clicked on Places, it crashed the photo app. Next time i went back in there, the Places option is gone.

After a reboot, the list of apps in the multi-tasking menu bar remains!!! (must be a bug)
