Gevey SIM doesn't work on iOS 5.0+. Also, the 04.11.08 baseband is not capable presently of being unlocked. No TurboSIM or GeveySIM will work for it, and ultrasn0w does not unlock it. The only choice you really have now is to restore to FACTORY 5.0.1 and activate it with a SIM card from the carrier it is locked to. Since you're already at the latest baseband there's no reason to restore a custom firmware or attempt to block the baseband update, and since there is no untethered jailbreak for 5.0.1 you should be fine to restore 5.0.1 and then jailbreak (tethered only!). It's possible that you can use redsn0w or sn0wbreeze to hacktivate the device once it's running 5.0.1, but it still will be unable to work as a phone unless you have the carrier's SIM card as you cannot unlock it.
If restoring to a factory / non-custom 5.0.1 fails for you, please read the link in my sig referring to restore problems and then post a log by following those instructions.

I'm in a similar situation to a previous poster. I've got a Japanese, carrier locked Softbank iPhone 4 running (according to tinyumbrella) iOS 5.0.1 and BB 04.11.08-ICE_2_13.
I bought it from a friend cheap but I'm unable to activate the thing without a microSIM card.
I've tried both sn0wbreeze and redsn0w to hacktivate it but I always get stuck at the DFU step. The device keeps booting up and saying that there is No SIM Card Installed instead. Is there anything I can do to activate it without a SIM? I'm only interested in using it as an iPod touch with the wifi in my place. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,
I am new to this forum and I always have an factory unlocked iPhone. But few days ago, my friend sent me his locked bought iPhone 4 (iOS 4.3.5, 16 GB) to unlock. He didn't have the carrier sim card on operator, which this iPhone 4 is locked to. So when I turn on the iPhone, on screen was connect to iTunes, insert sim card and activate the phone, so I cannot do that, because I haven't required sim card. I tried to restore it via iTunes on iOS 4.3.5 or 4.3.2 and everytime iTunes informed some error. I found on the czech forum, that I can activate it via redsn0w. I download the redsn0w 0.9.8.b4, browse iOS 4.3.2. and unchecked everything and choose next, redsn0w jailbreaked my iPhone and it didn't boot. I cannot restart it, I only see black screen. I tried to tether boot from redsn0w, but It only show the pineapple and then iPhone again show black screen. I tried to restore from iTunes, but it doesn't work, everytime iTunes informed some error (This device isn’t eligible for the requested build error or etc.). I tried to fix recovery via TinyUmbrella, but it only show me on iPhone screen:
greenpois0n
Unable to find gBdevList
Unable to find fs_mount
Unable to fs_load_file
Greenpois0n initialized
And that's all. I can only see black screen or this "greenpois0n", when I did the fix recovery via TinyUmbrella. Can anyone have any advice? I will be very pleased, if I can run friend's iPhone again. Thank you and sorry for my english.

Hi, I'm going to jump on this thread too. I got an iPhone 4 this evening version 4.0.1, baseband 01.59.00-ICE_2_6 verified with tiny umbrella.
The phone is on a different network (O2 IRL) to the sim I have (VODAFONE IRL) and iTunes is telling me there is no sim card installed.....etc, so how can I activate it please? Or can I just jailbreak it as it is? Thanks.
