New IPhone 3G From AppleCare on iOS4.2... SLOW!!
Okay I had to send my iPhone into apple for damage (handled by best buy) and my new one is on 4.2. On my old one I was running 3.1.3. For speed reasons. It's SLOW.
Id like some advice from some folks that have overclocked their iPhones. Does overclocking make that much of a difference? I know the dangers of high clock speeds, but I'm desperate. I like ios4 better than 3.1.3, ad don't want to downgrade unless there's no other choice. Opinions?
Oh, and I noticed in iTunes there's only 6 something GB out of the supposedly '8GB'. (tried sn0wbreeze on my old phone but it screwed with the root partition ad kept crashing, so I said screw sn0wbreeze and used it stock until spirit came out) is there something like that going on here? I have not jailbroken and I set this phone up as new using iTunes.
Thank you in advance for your time and effort!

The speed problem is more due to less available memory than CPU speed. It's also much harder to overclock on iOS 4.x

The OS partition size has crept up over the years, iOS 4 is larger and has more features than iOS 3. Plus you never truly get 8Gb - the reality is your 8BG device is around 7.8GB due to differences between marketing and real disk size.

Okay, good to know. Thanks.
And here's some advice for folks: if you don't use spotlight, turn it off. Read about that on some website, and it makes a night and day difference. After you disable it, do a double hard reset.
And didn't know that about ios4.. So I won't try overclocking. Hehe. Thanks again.
