Hi guys,

I finally unlocked my iPhone 4 (GSM) and got it to work on T-Mobile's network. So far, voice, SMS, and data (EDGE) are working fine. The only gripe I have is the MMS. I can send but I CAN'T RECEIVE. I've called T-Mobile a dozen times but because the iPhone 4 isn't an official device for them, they are unable to fully troubleshoot the issue.

I've read several posts on the forums and it seems everybody thinks the MMS issue can be solved by altering the APN settings in the "Cellular Data Network" menu. I have tried every combination of APN settings and IT DOESN'T SOLVE THE ISSUE.

Here is the skinny:

PC OS - Windows 7 (32-bit)
Model - iPhone 4 16GB (GSM)
iOS - 4.3.5 (8L1)
Modem Firmware - 4.10.01
Jailbreak - NO JAILBREAK
Carrier - T-Mobile USA (postpaid)


I have a feeling that something more internal needs to be "tweaked" to make MMS work on T-Mobile USA. Please help! Thanks

How is the phone unlocked? It's not possible to soft-unlock the phone without a jailbreak unless you're using a Gevey SIM (which is illegal in the USA). It's important for us to know in order to figure out what needs to be done.

I've personally jailbroken a 3G and 3GS, unlocked with ultrasn0w, then put onto T-Mobile with working MMS send/recv, EDGE data, SMS, voice, etc. All I needed to do was put in the proper APN settings.

04.10.01 is not susceptible to any software unlocks that I'm aware of, so I'm very dubious as to how your unlock works. I've never worked with a Gevey SIM in order to get MMS/SMS/etc. working, but let us know how it's unlocked and I'm sure we can be more helpful.

For MMS to work on iPhone with Tmobile USA, you have to be able to add the following to the APN settings:

APN: wap.voicestream.com
Username:
Password:
MMSC: 216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
MMS Proxy 216.155.165.50:8080
MMS Max Message Size:
MMS UA Prof URL:

If that does not work, then use:

APN: epc.tmobile.com
Username:
Password:
MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng-t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MMS Proxy: 216.155.165.50:8080
MMS Max Message Size:
MMS UA Prof URL:

However, for those settings to stick, you would have to patch commcenter. As far as i know, there isn't a patch for IOS 4.3.5 around.
With that said, if your device is jailbroken, you can probably try to purchase tetherme (yes, i know it's a tethering thing) but it will allow APN modification .

It has been a while since I last play with this so YMMV.

I unlocked my iPhone 4 with the Gevey Ultra sim. Because my iPhone 4 isn't jailbroken, I have to manually unlock the phone every time I turn it on (takes like 1-2mins). According to your post, a software unlock (applies only to baseband 1.59.00) allows the iPhone to work flawlessly (except no 3G data). Again, I can send MMS (most of the time) but I can't receive for the love of God. A message indicating "the picture resolution is too big or resolution is exceeding network standards" keeps popping up. I appreciate any insight on this matter.

I've tried those APN settings but they don't alleviate my problem a single bit. T-Mobile referred me to the latter APN settings you designated but warned me that customers can't receive MMS, just send. And to be honest, I have trouble sending MMS sometimes because the phone says there was a failure sending causing me to resubmit the MMS. Please advise what the commcenterpatch is. Thanks.

Mine is a factory unlock iphone 4 and after jb-ing i lost my facetime and mms. i followed some video and got my mms back, but was only able to send and wasn't able to receive any messages, it would say "the media content was not included due to a picture resolution or message size restriction" so i think it's pretty similar to yours. and i follow through with this video and it worked. hopefully this helped u ^_^

I have an iPhone 4 running 4.3.5 04.10.01 firmware and I am using a blue Gevey Ultra Sim to unlock my iPhone to use it with T-Mobile.

Until about a month ago I was able to send and receive picture messages with absolutely no problem at all with these settings.

All other fields were left blank. I noticed a few weeks ago that I kept getting the "The media content was not included due to a picture resolution or message size restriction" error message when people sent me picture messages. I could still send MMS, but couldn't receive them.

I even had a friend of mine in Daytona Beach, FL with an iPhone 3G that started to have the same issue (with the 4.2.1 06.15.00 Firmware), so it's not just a problem with the iPhone 4 on T-Mobile's network.

I spoke to T-Mobile's customer service on numerous occasions and verified that my settings were correct to what information they have on record and at one point I was told by customer service that it was an issue that T-Mobile has been working on and that they couldn't give me an estimated date on when they will have the problem resolved.

I just spoke to them again yesterday and they told me to jailbreak my iPhone and add the source http://beta.leimobile.com/repo in Cydia and then search for T-Mobile MMS Fix and install it. These are the settings I got after I installed the T-Mobile MMS Fix.

Even after going through the hassle of jailbreaking (tethered) my iPhone and installing the T-Mobile MMS Fix, I am now unable to send or receive picture messages. I think this problem is something that T-Mobile's network has to fix because my original settings worked great up until about a month ago and until recently, I didn't change any settings.

I've also read other postings on the internet where people with Android T-Mobile phones were also having similar problems.

I put my settings back to my original settings and I was able to send pictures again, still can't receive them though.

After about a month of not being able to receive picture messages and nonstop calls to T-Mobile customer service with people who I could only assume are in India based on the very strong accents they had, I finally got my MMS working again!

They told me to jailbreak and install the source http://beta.leimobile.com/repo and then install the T-Mobile MMS Fix and that just made everything worse.

After some playing around, I found another Cydia source that actually fixed my settings!

Add the source Cydia.pushfix.info and install T-Mobile US MMS Fix.

These are the settings that I now have in Networks since I installed the fix.

Cellular:

Just wanted to let people know that I tried itsnevo's fix for an iPhone 3GS 5.0 and it worked.

I had to join this forum just to say thanks to itsnevo! This worked for my iphone 4 on ios 5.0
