Latest redsn0w doesn't work?
Yesterday I got an iPhone 3g ios4.0 [Unlocked/Jailbroken] from eBay. I was disappointed that the eBay seller didn't install Cydia on it, and now I'm desperately trying to get Cydia on it. The iPhone is already on firmware 4.0.
-downloaded the latest redsn0w (redsn0w_win_0.9.5b5-5)
-downloaded the 4.0 firmware (iPhone1,2_4.0_8A293_Restore)
The problem is that everytime I open the extracted redns0w file, it pops up normally, and then I click "Browse" and I go to the extracted firmware file (if I don't extract the file it won't show up on the "Browse") and I click:
and nothing is left at in the end.
I've tried to read a lot of guides but I'm stuck at this part. Here is one guide.
Redsn0w jailbreak steps | iPhone News, Help and Guides
And I even tried looking at Youtube Tutorials.
Why is that my redsn0w wont detect the ispw? This is my first time going to jailbreak so I'm a beginner. All help will be appreciated.
*note: everytime I am finished extracting "iPhone1,2_4.0_8A293_Restore" an error pops up "The path '2_4.0_8A293_Restore' does not exist or is not a directory"
Probably the downloaded ipsw is incomplete or corrupt or somehow changed from what redsn0w expects.
You do not need to extract the ipsw. Your web browser should be configured to not auto expand it "ntick "open safe files" if it is safari.
Redsn0w does a check of the sha1 hash for the ipsw and refuses to use it if invalid.

Why are you extracting the firmware? Just select the iPhone1,2_4.0_8A293_Restore.ipsw and would be fine
