Default itunes won't let me restore to 4.3.3

I tried to restore to 4.3.3 last night on 3gs running 3.1.2 on fw 4.26.08. Ran tiny umbrella but noticed it couldn't save any shsh blobs apart from 3.1.2 came up with some message that it was too late. Anyhow restore bombed straight away with error 21 (got ipsw off iclarified). So phone stuck in restore. Tried to restore 4.2.1 but came back with firmware issue for this ios so still stuck. Had a look round and found a video saying blackrain could help so ran it, rest the phone and hey presto back to where I was. So is apple giving me this error because it can't verify the 4.3.3 with tiny umbrella. Any help appreciated.

If you actually did some research instead of randomly trying things - you would understand that Apple has stopped signing 4.3.3 restores (they only sign 4.3.5 now)

Based on the information you have given so far: you can ONLY restore to iOS 3.1.2 and iOS 4.3.5 (and higher) - this is assuming you interpreted the TinyUmbrella output correctly. I find it EXTREMELY strange that it would report only 3.1.2 and not higher. If you saved 3.1.2 then Cydia should have automatically requested SHSH blobs for your device for *most* iOS versions since.

Error 21 indicates you didn't start in pwned dfu mode. Pwned DFU mode is for custom IPSW (and requires a saved SHSH blob for the iOS version you are trying to restore).

Finally, when you ran TinyUmbrella, did you go to the advanced tab and untick "set hosts to Cydia on exit"? This is something you should do.

Bit harsh that reply. I didn't just randomly start doing things here as I have sucessfully upgraded and jailbroken phones already. I'm well aware that Apple only sign their latest IOS and that was the point with Tiny umbrella as I thought I'd need it to sign the 4.3.3 ios.

As for the 21 error, I followed the iclarified tutorial and at no point did it state the phone had to be in dfu to shift restore the ios. When I did do this I got a 1600 error.

If being helpful means slagging me off then I'll not bother in the future!

Okay, I'm sorry if I came across too harsh. Your original post sounded quite vague and a lot of users are destroying their only chance by randomly trying different tools/techniques/restores in a panic.

Don't confuse DFU and pwned DFU, they are NOT the same thing. Pwned DFU builds on the hardware DFU mode using device specific exploits that allow booting from an unsigned ramdisk.

You said you got the IPSW from iClarifed, I'm assuming it's an original IPSW (as I don't think iClarified links to custom IPSW [it is technically illegal to share/distribute premade custom IPSWs]). We maintain a list of legal, original IPSW direct downloads here: http://www.hackint0sh.org/f127/22056.htm

If it's an original IPSW - downloaded directly from Apple (or via a site that links to the apple download URLs) then you are right, you don't need to be in DFU mode to restore this. However you DO need a SHSH blob. Which brings us back to the dilemma.

You need to confirm you have a locally cached 4.3.3 SHSH blob before you restore the phone. Best case - you'll get 3194 or "this device is not eligible" error. Worst case - you end up in a DFU loop due to writing invalid SHSH blobs on the device (this can be done if you mess with pwned DFU mode and don't have the right SHSH blobs available)

if you can confirm you have a 4.3.3 SHSH blob locally cached in a location that TinyUmbrella can access, then you simply click Start TSS Server in TinyUmbrella, verify the TSS server has started correctly. Open iTunes, shift-click (option click on mac) restore and browse to the original 4.3.3 IPSW you have downloaded.

This should work. If it doesn't publish your restore log. There can be other causes for Error 21 than the one I explained.

Appreciate the reply. As I said earlier I only had the 3.1.2 blob saved in umbrella. For all other blobs I got a message

The above is an example of someone elses phone off the web but the jist is the same. The only shsh it could save was 3.1.2 which is the current ios.

As for the ipsw it was from the appldnld link and I've used these before ok. I assume them that unless I can get a blob from somewhere I can't do anything with this?

Just a note regarding tinyumbrella settings:

    You want:

Save all available SHSH - CHECKED
Set host to cydia on exit ... UNCHECKED
Request SHSH from cydia CHECKED *
    Overwrite existing SHSH - CHECKED

You also need to use the latest TinyUmbrella version. Finally the phone needs to be detected by TinyUmbrella in the left hand pane.
If it isn't detected, reasons include - iTunes not installed on PC (or installation is corrupted), Windows x64 (doesn't work for me on Win 7 x64), phone is in DFU mode, phone is in boot loop.

It's not a bad idea to try to save SHSH with "request SHSH from Cydia" on and off. The reason is that while Cydia often has saved older SHSH blobs (and it is useful to retrieve these), Apple has been recently trying to block Cydia from proxying new SHSH requests - so if you can't get a SHSH for the very latest iOS version with Request SHSH from Cydia turned on, try again with it turned off.

PS I edited your prior post to remove the information you said to ignore, if my edit was incorrect or excessive - please send me a PM and I will fix it.

ok some good points, to clarify I didn't use the latest tiny umbrella but it obviously did detect the phone due to log about the shsh.

I'll try and request them from cydia on the phone later. I presume them that an shsh is generic and cydia can download them to any phone if it haves them.

So just to finish for now, could the issue be that the restore failed so quickly because there wasn't a valid blob in tiny umbrella for 4.3.3 ?

I don't know - I thought the log file you posted was not your own. The key is to see if the phone appears in the left panel of TinyUmbrella when connected.

SHSH are NOT generic. They are UNIQUE to a specific phone and iOS version. If you for example saved your SHSH for iOS 4.0 then got your phone replaced under warranty, the saved SHSH would NOT work on your replacement phone.

However once you know the device unique ID for your phone (called ECID) you can request a SHSH blob from Apple (or Cydia) via TinyUmbrella without needing the phone to be physically present during the request (For iPhone 4 and iPad 2G [GSM or CDMA] - the device should be physically present during SHSH request)

Definitely. The restore will fail on the iTunes side very quickly without a valid SHSH.

I've ran cydia on the phone (it hadn't been run for a while as it's not mine) and I now have blobs going up to 4.2.1. Have just attempted to put 4.2.1 on phone . Saw tinyumbrella proxy the shsh request and it gets most of the way through and bombs out with error 29. Back to square one so I'm going to try and put 4.1 on as I have a blob for this. If this doesn't work it's back to 3.1.2, god help me if that doesn't work!!!!!

Error 29 is often battery related, was the battery ever replaced with a third party one?
