I have the same problem, let me explain it in details. I have an iphone 4 GSM, 4.2.1, jailbroken with greenpoison RC6 and unlocked with gevey ultra. Ive created the custom 5.0.1 ipsw with redsnow, and tried to restore, and i got the same problems, first it popped up the 3194 when itunes was still extracting the software, so i tried with tinyumbrella, and did everything that the same fellas did here, unchecked the send to cydia thing, and nothing. So I started TSS server and tried, it worked, and itunes was restoring i had the apple logo and the bar, but when it was like 20 % error 10 popped up. Then I tried to close tinyumbrella as n1ckn4m3 suggested, and nothing, I deleted couple of lines of my original host file and nothing. Still error 3194. Im gonna post whats my host file was and witch lines i deleted here it goes:

    HOST ORIGINAL FILE:

    # Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.
    #
    # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
    #
    # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
    # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
    # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
    # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
    # space.
    #
    # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
    # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
    #
    # For example:
    #
    # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
    # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

    127.0.0.1 localhost

DO i have to add something? Please help me out :/ now my iphone is stuck on the Itunes logo... And I still wanna update with no_bb firmware so i can unlock with gevey.

Forgot to mention that ive tried putting my device into pwned dfu, idk if i really managed to do it. The redsnow and ireb said i had it on pwned dfu, and still no restore... 3194 error...

3194 can only occur if iTunes has requested from Apple authorization to sign an .IPSW and Apple has responded that the version is not valid. This can be because it's an old version, and this can be because you're attempting to restore the wrong model's .IPSW to your device.

TinyUmbrella CANNOT be used to restore iOS 5.x -- SHSH DO NOT WORK for iOS5. There is no need to attempt to do so, it truly does not work. Attempting to do so will either bootloop the phone or just fail to restore.

I suggest downloading the .IPSW directly from Apple or iClarified for 5.0.1 for your phone, then use redsn0w to make the NO_BB firmware, put the phone in Pwned DFU again and attempt to restore. Your hosts file is correct now, but based on your comment I don't know when you removed any lines that point to gs.apple.com...

Glad to hear you got it restored -- jailbreaking should be pretty simple with redsn0w 0.9.10b5b. As far as Gevey Ultra, I know there are some additional steps required for iOS 5.x -- unfortunately I don't know them specifically, but a quick google search should run you through what has to happen to gain service with the Gevey.

Please read the 'restore problems' link in my signature and follow the instructions to post us a restore log that we can review. That said, Error 9 and Error 10 are almost always caused by people not following instructions. If you're restoring a No_BB firmware, you MUST put the phone into 'Pwned DFU' mode using either iReb or redsn0w. Restore mode or DFU mode WILL NOT work.

    Hi,

I am stuck...I have a similar issue. I have iPhone 3GS which is JB and unlocked running iOS 4.1 with BB 06.15.00

I got sn0wbreeze and created a custom IPSW (preserve baseband mode) and followed the instructions. got into PWNED DFU mode and tried restoring through iTunes 10.5.2 using shift + restore and pointing it to the custom IPSW created by Sn0wbreeze. the restore starts and about 10% into it, I get an error (10).

Since then I have used iRebr5 to put the phone into PWNED DFU and after verifying it, I tried to shift + restore, but same error.

I also used redsn0w to put the phone into PWNED DFU and after verifying it, I tried to shift + restore, but same error.

I have posted my update logs at iPhone error 10 - Pastebin.com

    Please help!

    thanks

A lot of people have complained about this who use sn0wbreeze. This is another reason we recommend redsn0w and all of our guides and tutorials recommend redsn0w. Please re-create the .IPSW with redsn0w and attempt the restore again. Let us know if you continue to have problems.

We're not trying to dog sn0wbreeze, in many cases it works fine -- but when you have sporadic and unexplainable problems during a restore and the error message doesn't actually indicate what the problem is, the FIRST thing we recommend is to create the custom .IPSW with redsn0w instead and see if that makes any change.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the response. Where can I find the instructions for redsn0w to do the same. Also, at this point, what is the iOS on my phone? Is it still iOS 4.1 or iOS 5? I am asking so I know what to search for when I look for instructions.

also, as I mentioned I had used redsn0w for the iReb but with same error.

    I tried now the following.

Using redsn0w latest build, I created a custom IPSW with no_BB option.
Put the phone in PWN DFU mode using redsn0w and verified it.
Connected to iTunes 10.5.2 and attempted shift + restore using the new IPSW from redsn0w.
    result - same error (10).

    What can I do next?

    thanks in advance.
