Default iPhone Bootloop after erase all content and settings

    Hi All!
I have been going through all these posts but not able to make out much of it.
I am totally new to these stuff. I bought a used iphone 4 from craiglist and as soon as i did "erase all content and settings" the phone went into the emergency calls only mode. I did some research and using tinyumbrella determined the the IOS version is 4.3.5 and baseband is 4.11.08.
I tried using the redsnow and enter dfu mode and Shift + restore in itunes but nothing works!

So it seems the phone was jailbreaked and now i caused it to lock!

Please advise on how to restore it. I do not want to upgrade to IOS 5 as i want to be able to unlock it as i have to use the phone outside USA.

I supose getting into the pawneddfu mode and restore from istunes using ipsw for 4.3.5 should work but it didn't!

    Thanks a ton.

Well, you've caused a bit of a problem. Erasing all content and settings has removed iOS from the device, so you will have to restore with iTunes in order to make the phone work again. You can use redsn0w 0.9.10b3 to make a no baseband firmware, and also to kick your phone into "Pwned DFU" in order to restore it -- HOWEVER -- your phone can ONLY be unlocked using the Gevey SIM right now, ultrasn0w will not work as it does not support your baseband.

Besides that, when you restore, you will likely have to restore iOS 5.0.1 as you would need to have SHSH to be able to restore iOS 4.x onto the phone. Click the SHSH link in my signature or google SHSH to learn about them and why you need them, then download TinyUmbrella if you think it's at all possible that Cydia may have your SHSH on file. That would be the only way to restore iOS 4.x onto the phone at the moment.

    n1ckn4m3,

I'm sorry, I think I have a similar question but with a different phone which impacts the IOS version question:

We live in the UK and bought a US jailbreaked/unlocked 16gb 3Gs over Christmas. I stupidly told my husband to do the same, hit "erase all content and settings" to clear the former users info, (because his itunes account was still showing) even though everything was working before. (He's having trouble forgiving me for this one!) So, now its stuck in apple loop, though I think I did manage to get it into DFU mode by getting itunes to recognize it when plugged in. After reading several posts, I'm petrified to do anything more and factory restore without knowing if is the right next step. I downloaded Tiny Umbrella but don't know how to use it. Based on your comments above, I'm wondering if I am not as restricted as Samis as to what I can do next, due to the phone being a 3Gs and therefore a different original iOS version? (Before the erase, it was iOS version 5.0.0 and was unlocked.)

Thanks for any help you can offer. I appreciate your expertise greatly.

Same problem, same result. Your phone has no installed version of iOS on it after erase all content and settings, it only has the bare minimum to accept a restore from iTunes. As such, you must restore the device before it will be able to be used. With that said, you're in luck at this very moment, the most recent version of iOS (5.0.1) has an untethered jailbreak -- so you don't have to deal with SHSH in order to get an untethered jailbreak.

Install iOS 5.0.1 to the device directly from iTunes. Use redsn0w 0.9.10b5 (get it from the dev team's site, please don't use sn0wbreeze, I don't like having to tell people that after I've requested they use redsn0w. Sure, sn0wbreeze works most of the time, but the 2 out of 10 times it doesn't, it's impossible to troubleshoot.) to jailbreak. You should be fine.

The following URL will assist most Jailbroken - Erase All Content and Settings - Boot Loop issues, as long as the iPhone still hard boots (Power + Home Buttons) into a working Springboard for at least a few seconds prior to going into the Boot Loop.
