Default Iphone baseband upgrade or not?

    Hi,

i have got a iphone 3g which has ios 3.13 and i have managed to preserve my baseband version at 04.26.08 always used pwanagetools.

what i am wondering is that the new ios4 has baseband 05.13.04 which again is hackable so should i retain my current version or use pwanagetools and upgrade to latest version?

what are the advantage and disadvantages or keeping 04.26.08 or upgrading to 05.13.04

    thanks
    dee

I don't like having mismatched versions if not necessary. Although, there apparently is a new "feature" in the 4.0 baseband:

This new "feature" is only for the iPhone 4. Not for the 3GS and 3G

My advice is if you have the ability to downgrade back to the OS that matches your baseband then you should stick with that baseband for a week or so before thinking about upgrading your baseband to iOS 4.0 version.
Then if any problems appear with ultrasn0w 0.9.3 or with the new baseband you are safe.

It's a one-way upgrade for most people so you need to be really sure it is the right thing to do.

That said.. musclenerd has had a lot of time to test this specific unlock and would not have released unless it was very stable.

Does pwnagetools have the ability to upgrade the baseband?
As far as I knew, one of the advantage using custom firmwares was just to avoid bb upgrade (for ppl relying to unlock).

Yes the new pwnagetool 4.0.1 allows you to chose whether you want to upgrade baseband or not.

There is no solid information yet to indicate whether 05.13.04 is any better for signal or battery life. You can only assume that Apple has tweaked this in each baseband release - they don't just update the baseband to block unlock.

oh nice, i was mistakely thinking the only way to upgrade BB was restoring with an original FW.

as an owner of an "old" 3GS who rely on unlock, I guess then there's no need to wait for anything more.... find a custom firmware (I'm using windows), choose whether stay on old BB or upgrade, then install ultrasn0w via cydia and make a phone call

    thank you
