    I installed BOTH Greenpoison (6.1) and Redsn0w (0.9.8b4) respectively. After installing Greenpoison (or should I say re-installing because the skull logo was already on my phone), there was no noticeable difference with the iOS and the "loader" and "cydia" apps weren't on the springboard. Also, I noticed that when the Greenpoison jailbreaking was happening, there were some lines saying "bootdisk/ram disk can't be mounted" of that sort.

    After installing Redsn0w, "cydia" and "loader" showed up on the springboard. I haven't had a chance to play with those apps because I need to do it with a WiFi connection. But, although I understand the meanings of tethered and untethered jailbreaks, I am confused how it applies to my situation. My phone powers on with no issues. Is it because I have both a tethered and untethered jailbreak on my phone at the same time? Or do I need to boot tethered (using Redsn0w) in order to access the apps on cydia??? Please explain. Thanks!!!
    Yes the tethered thing can get tricky to understand, especially with the "semi-tethered status" of some recent jailbreaks (until you installed something that heavily modified the phone - like mobilesubstrate - the phone would boot without requiring a tether (but Cydia wouldn't work). This doesn't apply to you.

    However the combination of an initially tethered jailbreak with hackivation (via redsn0w) and then an untether (via greenpois0n) should have worked. You now have Cydia and your jailbreak is untethered. You do not need redsn0w (or greenpo1son) until the next time you restore/update and decide to jailbreak again.

    @Olethros

    Not surprisingly, you were right about it all. The "tag team" of jailbreaks (Greenpoison & Redsn0w) let me have the best of both worlds. I agree with you that the Redsn0w jailbreak is SOLID but the tethered part is not. With Greenpoison also installed, I didn't have to boot tethered everytime I turned on my iPhone. It all worked out.

    I leaned a lot from this forum and you guys I must say. You guys really helped me understand the intricacies of the iPhone 4 and I really appreciate it. I will probably ugrade to 4.3.5 eventually (or iOS 5) when I feel the need to do so. Regardless, I'm "up and running" and not gonna look back. Thanks again guys!

    Now that it's working, you may want to try iFaith again. You *really* want to get the partial SHSH blobs that should be available on your device right now for 4.2.1, it's your only way of being able to restore 4.2.1 again in the future. Now that the phone doesn't seem to be crapping all over itself any more, you may have a better result with attempting to grab them. It would suck to be forced to restore to 4.3.5 at some point in the future with no way of loading 4.2.1 again.

    That said, glad to hear you got everything working!
