Hi everyone...

i have recently bought this slightly used iPhone 4 with software version 4.3.3 and baseband 04.10.01. Previously i owned an iPhone 3G which i was using from last 3 years or so and was also upgrading/jailbreaking/unlocking it myself.

Yesterday i got a bit excited knowing that my 4G's software is a bit outdated and a new 5.0.1 is there waiting for my phone. Sadly, and i would say luckily as well, i read that theres no unlock available atm for the baseband for my new phone, before i actually pressed the button on sn0wbreeze to put my phone in DFU mode.

Theres though this Gevey sim thing available (something that i used for my 3G back in 2009) and thats something i never preferred to go after. I can wait for ultrasn0w to come up with the solution for 04.10.01 baseband as they always do.

One thing that i would ask you guys is that, my phone (when i bought it) was already jailbroken and unlocked. Im someone who hasnt seen a phone that is jailbroken but unlocked without using softwares like ultrasn0w or other popular patches that unlock jailbroken iphone.

My phone is jailbroken with 4.3.3 but when im in Cydia, the Packages do not show ultrasn0w or any other software that has unlocked this phone. I can use any sim on my phone at the moment and all of them have worked for now. This phone though needs an upgrade anyway cause 4.3.3 has these issues with wifi connections and the data sent/recieved over wifi connections usually turns frozen between screen lock intervals.

Should i wait for any jailbreak upgrade until unlock for 04.10.01 is out? Other thing that is bothering me is my phone's unlocked state after jailbreak which is working without any software mentioned in Cydia's installed packages

Please guide me through this confusion

If you don't have ultrasn0w installed and you aren't using a Gevey SIM and you can use multiple carrier SIM cards, it's possible your phone is factory unlocked. It's rare that this would happen and you wouldn't know it, though.

What is the model number of the device? Are you sure that the person who unlocked it previously didn't find a way to get it on Apple's unlock list? Some of the places that you pay $$ for an unlock do it this way...

Im not using Gevey Sim and yes Cydia Installed packages list doesnt show ultrasn0w on it. Model number of my phone is MC604AE.

I bought this phone through a mutual friend i had with the seller and really hadnt a chance to meet the seller personally.

Now the question should be that if my phone is factory unlocked, why does it has Cydia installed on it?
If factory unlocked phones do come with Cydia on it (im sure they are not), would an upgrade going to wash away the factory unlock with it?

Im going to upgrade it with sn0wbreeze and as we all know that sn0wbreeze doesnt upgrades the Modem firmware and there is no ultrasn0w unlock for 04.10.01 yet.

I feel like im trapped in this awkward situation

MC604AE is a United Arab Emirates phone and the carrier authorizes factory unlocks, which is likely how your device is unlocked. You should be fine to upgrade this to any iOS revision and keep the unlock. You're very lucky, most people spend an arm and a leg to get a factory unlocked phone and you didn't even know you had one.

Cydia can be on the phone for many reasons, people unlock for thousands of reasons not related to unlocking.
