    Default iPhone 4 with 4.0.2, should I update to 4.1 ?

    Hi there,

I just bought an iPhone 4 Factory unlocked. It came with 4.0.2.

I tried saving my SHSHs with umbrella but its too late to get the SHSHs of 4.0.2 (not that it matters anyway) and it saved 4.1 instead.

Now my question is, can I update to 4.1 ? I hear there's a jailbreak coming soon, is it confirmed to be working with 4.1, or shall I just stay on 4.0.2 just in case. I'm not sure what to do.

    Thank you in advance.

SHSH your phone and try googling or searching in this forum on how to preserve the baseband of you iphone 4 while upgrading to 4.1 so you'll be on baseband 1.59.00 on IOS4.1 , after that wait for a jailbreak and install ultrasn0w.

I did SHSH my iPhone already. I know how to preserve my baseband but do I need to do that if I don't rely on an unlock ? My iPhone is factory unlocked and works with any sim card.

    Thank you for chiming in.

If you want to be able to jailbreak, it is always safest to stay on the older version until a stable jailbreak is released for the "latest and greatest" version.

This is a constant rule, it is always the best advice.

Right now, the indications are that 4.1 will be jailbroken (on 2010 iOS devices) sooner rather than later. So.. if you don't rely on unlock, there is no long term damage in going to 4.1 but there is no way back to 4.0.2 ever.
