Default iPhone 4.1 to 4.2.1 Issue

I was a proud owner of an IPhone 4 (iOS 4.2.1) which had greenpois0n jailbreak. My iPhone was stolen and now I own an iPhone 4 (iOS 4.1) not having any jailbreak.

I tried to restore my stolen iPhone contents to the new iPhone and iTunes is not letting me due to the old version of the iOS.

I would liketo upgrade iOS 4.1 to iOS 4.2.1 but iTunes is not letting me.

Can anyone help with the procedure to follow please?

Without a 4.2.1 SHSH, you won't be able to upgrade to 4.2.1 on this device -- and since it's a new device to you, the odds are extremely slim that there are SHSH on file (unless it was a refurb'd device that you got and not new).

Without the SHSH, you can only go to 4.3.5 at this point. It's presently jailbreakable, with a tethered jailbreak, but not presently unlockable (unless you keep an older baseband). Since you didn't mention unlocking, I'm assuming you don't need it. IF you want to preserve your 4.1x baseband, you can use tinyumbrella while upgrading and that will allow you to upgrade to 4.3.5 while keeping the 4.1.x baseband.

Unfortunately though, as mentioned, there's no clear way for you to get to 4.2.1 right now from 4.1 without a 4.2.1 SHSH on file for this specific device.
