1. shall i restor to 3.1.2 and then to 3.1.3 using the same method or can i restore to 3.1.3 directly?
2. I bought this phone in Canada my carrier was Rogers. Though i have found that sim but due to non payment that sim has been blocked. Now I am in Saudi Arabia and although the sim is ligitimate but since it is blocked so what do you think will it work me?
3. Is there any hope in the near future for me to upgrade to 4.2 etc?

I would save your SHSH for 4.2.1 using Tiny Umbrella as soon as possible. My guess is that iOS 4.3 is due out within 2 weeks. Once iOS 4.3 is released, Apple will no longer sign 4.2.1 restores (so it will be too late to get 4.2.1). The situation with 4.2.1 and untethered jailbreak will become clearer after 4.3 is released.

As for 3.1.2, I need to check some things first.. That might take me a day or two. Don't try to restore to 3.1.2 or 3.1.3 yet.

ok thanks for the support I will be waiting. By the way when i open cydia it says SHSH: IOS 3.1, 3.1.2, 3.1.3, 4.0, 4.0.1, 4.1, 4.2.1+ may be this is helpful.

You've told me this already.

The core issue is that you don't have the ability to run OS X and make a Pwnagetool Custom IPSW. You either need to solve that or take risky solutions like the "last ditch" solution I posted earlier.

No, I don't recommend this.

You need to use pwnagetool / custom IPSW to block baseband update. Otherwise there is no safe/reliable way to unlock your phone.

The following common tools don't block baseband update on a 3GS - Redsn0w, limera1n, greenpois0n, tinyumbrella

We ONLY recommend pwnagetool 4.2 for blocking baseband update. Pwnagetool requires access to a mac to make the custom IPSW.

Either wait.. or find a friend with a mac who can make and send you a proper custom IPSW.

ok i will wait...but last night i faced a problem with my wifi which i believe is a software issue. when i goto setting->wifi my iphone does not see any wifi hotspot though my ipod can. but when i use a software like wififofum then it detects the wifi networks and i can connect to it as well. I have tried rebooting, resetting network setting, hard reboot etc but the problem still presist.

I faced this problem earlier as well but resetting network settings without a sim card in the phone always worked for me. The only reason i can figure out of the problem is that i used a bluetooth headset which corrupted the wifi driver i guess.

Now I think i have to restore my iphone but the question is that can i restore to ios3.0?

You can only restore to 3.0 if you have a 3.0 SHSH saved. Very very few 3GS owners were lucky enough to save their 3.0/3.0.1 shsh

Hi, Olethros, is it possible to use Pwnage Tool to make a custom 4.2.1 firmware without activation and jailbreak? Cause I want to upgrade my 3GS to 4.2.1 but I can activate by iTunes so don't need activation.

Yes, it is possible. Making a custom IPSW without hacktivation can be done via "expert mode"

Making a custom IPSW that doesn't jailbreak or install Cydia requires modifying the exisiting pwnagetool bundle for your device
