Check your hosts file, make sure there are no references to gs.apple.com

Start Pwnage Tool 4.1.2 or 4.1.3 and click "DFU" at the top and follow the tutorial to go into DFU mode. This should pwn your computer and the phone correctly. Then try to restore with a custom 4.2.1 IPSW.

If that still fails, see if you can force the phone into recovery mode and check via iRecovery to verify if the the MAC address is missing.

Finally, try to disconnect the battery for a while, then reconnect it before trying another DFU mode restore. That can fix some error 28 problems.

Try a different compile of iRecovery.

Dude, I cant seem to find where to download the correct iRecovery. All guides I find wont work at all! Not even first step which makes me assume the problem is not having the right iRecovery file. I couldnt find where to get the libusb.
I opened terminal. Then dragged irecovery file onto it. Then I type -s and hit return and this is what comes up:

Last login: Wed Feb 16 08:53:27 on ttys000
    iLS6:~ ils6$ /Users/ils6/Downloads/iPhone\ tools/iRecovery -s
    dyld: Library not loaded: /usr/local/lib/libusb-0.1.4.dylib
    Referenced from: /Users/ils6/Downloads/iPhone tools/iRecovery
    Reason: image not found
    Trace/BPT trap
    iLS6:~ ils6$

I dont know what compile is, I did some research but all I could get was word definitions and some weird software.
Also I downloaded iRecovery from here
    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=OB0CZM45

Im trying to give as much detail as I can.

Also, how can I send you a private msg. about the forum?

ok, i figured out as far as iRecovery. This is exactly what I did:

    Open terminal
    Dragged iRecovery onto terminal
    typed '-s' and pressed return
typed setenv auto-boot true and pressed return
    typed saveenv and pressed return
    typed fsboot and pressed return
    typed exit and pressed return

    Below is the whole thing.

Update: I erased the gs.apple.com lines of the hosts file again. Pwned DFU. Restored to 4.2.1.

Before that I took apart the other 3g 16 which was in the same state. I removed the board for like an hour. Re-assembled it, went to the same process as above, Error 40.

    apple.c....

Error 20, 21, 34, 37, 40: These errors typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. If you are using a PC, follow this article to resolve this issue. Error 40 may also indicate a hardware issue.

I cant think anymore! I got my brain toasted and my eyes burning red, Ima take a brake.
