    Olethros,

Another question. Can you tell me what boot loader I have for my Iphone 3GS? Is it the new or old?

Here is the information, I hope it is correct. USB\VID_05AC&PID_1227\5&2416E801&0&8

    Thanks and blessings!

I thought that I was but when I go to device manager and find the Iphone under the USB settings. I am not given the option "Device Instance Path". I am only given "Device Instance ID". Do you have any thoughts?

Also, what utility would you use to create a custom 4.2.1 firmware for Iphone 3GS?

Your phone might not be in DFU mode.

Custom IPSW - PwngageTool (old bootrom only)

Your phone is probably NOT in DFU mode.

It is "Device Instance Path" on my computer. It should look somewhat like:
    USB\VID_05AC&PID_1227\CPID:8930_CPRV:20_CPFM:03_SC EP:01_BDID:00_ECID:XXXXXXXXXXX_IBFL:00_SRTG:[IBOOT-XXX.XX]
That example is from an iPhone 4 but the format is the same

Pwnagetool is the only program we support for making custom IPSW

Thanks. I put the phone in DFS mode and this is the only thing that comes up. I have tried to restore this phone several times but it always fails out with a 1015 error. I have tried to use Ireb to help with the error but to no avail. The phone just stays in recovery mode. I have tried Irecovery to get it out of recovery mode but it does not work. I have tried so many different things from trying to restore a custom restore, to using Redsn0w, and others.

I have run out of ideas. For this reason, when I read the post from jjesurun who seemed to be having the same problem, I felt a bit more hopeful. I have tried to use pwnpage to create a custom firmware for 4.2.1 but it says the firmware is not valid. Maybe I downloaded a bogus firmware. I thought I downloaded from the apple site via another website. Do you recommend a website for downloading firmware? Any other thoughts would be great appreciated. Blessings!

    Wait a minute here.
What are you trying to do.
Error 1015 at end of restore is normal if there is a baseband mismatch.
The restore is completed but your phone will be stuck in recovery mode.
At this point, all you have to do is run tiny umbrella and kick the device out of recovery

Thank you so much for all your help. Yes, I have tried using TinyUmbrella many times to kick it out of the 1015 error. However, it continues to come back into restore mode. I can not get it out of restore mode, I have tried a lot of the utilities on the web but nothing works.

I went ahead and gave back my friends Iphone because I have exhausted all of my efforts, and do not want to mess with it anymore. Somewhere down the line of upgrading to baseband 6.15 it just never came back again.

Do you know of any place to send an Iphone with these sorts of problems to have it fixed?

Again, I really appreciate all of your time and efforts. Blessings to you, Steve

We can't help you more unless you provide us with more information.
You never confirmed if you had a new or old bootrom 3GS. Now you finally confirm that you think the device has 6.15 baseband
I don't recall ever getting any confirmation of which SHSH you have saved (if any)
Yes I understand that this might all seem too complicated, but it does say
WARNING — YOU DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK! PLEASE UNDERSTAND THE CONSEQUENCES OF UPDATING TO 06.15
on the official post announcing this solution. Dev-Team Blog - Ultra-recycle

I still believe your problem may be able to be fixed, TinyUmbrella can't kick out of recovery mode after a restore to 4.2.1 with 6.15 baseband. This is clearly documented on http://www.hackint0sh.org/f204/196391.htm

Those who have new bootrom 3GS and don't have a 4.1 SHSH simply should NOT use the 6.15 baseband, otherwise they will eventually end up with a device that can't be restored. It's like playing Russian roulette.

i succesfully completed jail breaking iphone 3gs new bootrom with 6.15 baseband from 4.1 to 5.1 version using redsn0w.as there is no network service in 5.1, i ve done 5.0.1 installed ultrasnow and also corona 5.0.1 un tethered from cydia which insisted to reboot ,in the process of booting(just boot tethered)in redsnow my screen became white followed by yellow and turns off automatically after 5-10min.on the other hand, in itunes while restoring by selecting shift+restore and selecting ipsw 5.0.1 file, following errors are comming even after deleting sauriks server(74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com) in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file.earlier the restore worked but now error 3194 and if it passes then error 1602 are coming
ive tried tiny umbrella also to recover it but it didnt work .
    i didnt change any battery,
is there any solution for the problem??
