Default iPhone 3GS Stuck in DFU

I have an iPhone 3GS 16gb that was on iOS 3.1.2 or 3.1.3 as far as a I can remember as I wasn't really it. I had it jailbroken and had ran ultrasn0w for sim unlock which went all fine and working. I finally decided to get rid of it and did the reset all of erase all settings and that was a big mistake cause then it got stuck on the apple logo with the spinning wheel. I kept trying to restart and stuff but it wouldn't budge. I figured maybe i can restore to 4.0.1 or something so i download the firmware from the official apple link and tried to restore it. First it wouldn't work. Then i found this program called iReb that let me go into some special DFU mode or whatever and then I was able to run the restore from itunes with tinyumbrella to bypass the verification. It ran all the way through but after it was done it just goes into DFU mode. Can't figure out how to get out of it. And redsn0w keeps flagging all the ipsw files I have download from apple as unrecognizable not sure why, so i am unable to run that. All the holding the home button and power button trick don't work except for going back into dfu mode.
In the USB settings I see iboot-359.3.2
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

    This tells me three things
    1. you are really in DFU mode
    2. It is a new bootrom 3GS
    3. You have most likely chosen the old bootrom option in redsn0w or you have tried to restore a custom IPSW (not supported on 3GS, except for pwnagetool 4.1.2 / iOS 4.1 - with saved SHSH)

iREB is not a good idea, it's causing more trouble than it's worth. Ditch it.
What version of redsn0w were you trying to use?
What SHSH does tiny umbrella say are saved for your 3GS?

When I got this iphone it was as I said 3.1.2 or 3.1.3 and I basically took the easy route and ran jailbrakeme 2.0 on it and then ran ultrasn0w for the sim unlock which worked fine. Of course after the reset it messed up.
If I don't use iREB then I can't restore because when I start the process I first get windows balloon tip stating that "this device will perform faster with USB 2.0" and then I get a 2004 error I think it was. I am not home right so I can't run it and check. Only way I can do a full restore via itunes is after running iREB but once it's done it just goes back in DFU mode.
I never saved any shsh in tinyumbrella to begin with as I wasn't aware of its existence prior to this issue. And as I figured jailbreakme supports up to 4.0.1 I would just restore with that and then do the same thing I did before and obviously that didn't go as planned and now I am stuck in this situation.
I used redsn0w's latest version b6 and also tried b5 both giving same error. The ipsw's as I said I downloaded recently from apple and did not modify them in any way, that's why I don't understand why they are not being recognized. Maybe because they are not signed by apple anymore?
Now can I restore with 4.1 from itunes and then do the redsn0w procedure that just came out or I must have the saved shsh files to do so?

This is a perfect example of why I dislike iREB. That balloon is a real error message, you simply cannot use an iPhone 3GS fully without USB 2

Confirm if your motherboard supports USB2, maybe you have incorrect (generic) USB drivers (I have seen it before) and the solution is simply to install the correct chipset drivers from the motherboard manufacturer.

When you launch Cydia after jailbreaking - it should ask "make my life easier" - you need to say "yes" to this question. This is basic jailbreaking - everyone should do this.

You need a 4.1 SHSH to restore to iOS 4.1 - Apple has stopped issuing these.

The IPSW you are trying to use with redsn0w, what iOS version are they? 4.2.1, 4.1, 4.0? Redsn0w 0.9.6b6 definitely supports IPSW 4.2.1 and 4.1 but I don't think it supports anything lower (i definitely know it doesn't accept a 4.0.2 IPSW)
