Hi,

I currently have an Iphone 3G with firmware 4.2.1. I have a problem with bluetooth. After some research on the internet, it appears that this firmware version has a bad bluetooth stack.

It should be fixed in a more recent version, but 4.2.1 is the last version for the 3G.

Anyone tried to install a version (4.3.3) for a 3GS on a 3G? Is it possible and will it work?

From what I understand and have tried before, a 3GS firmware wouldn't work on a 3G simply because iTunes wouldn't allow it to. Was there a reason why you didn't want to restore back to a 3G-optimized firmware(i.e. 3.0.1, 3.1.2,3.1.3)?

The 3G and 3GS use different bluetooth chips. The 3GS bluetooth chip also handles wifi functionality.

Regardless, the 3GS introduced a new instruction set for the CPU, this is more space-efficient but is 100% incompatible with the instruction set used in the chip that the 3G and 2G iPhones use.

Large parts of the iOS for 3GS are compiled for this new instruction set and as such can NEVER be used on a 3G or earlier iPhone. This is why features like Voice Control cannot be backported to the 3G (the binaries are compiled for only 3GS and later CPUs) for example.

What you are trying to do is idiotic. Simply downgrade to 3.1.3 (iPhone 3G IPSW) and be done with it.
