Hi guys,

I'm having some problems with upgrading from one version to another.

I upgraded from iPhone 3G 3.1.3 to 4.2.1, with the ipad BB upgrade too.
After this however, the iphone kept freezing whenever I unplugged it. \

So I tried to downgrade to 4.1 but it kept freezing halfway through the restore in itunes, as an alternative I downgraded back to 3.1.3 which worked fine, but I need an unlock so I need to upgrade either to 4.1 or 4.2.1..

But from 3.1.3 now I cannot upgrade to either 4.x version.

Can someone please advise me what to do!?!?

first my advise to u stay with 3.1.3 i update to 4.2.1 on 3G its slow...
about unlocking 3.1.3
after downgrading to 3.1.3
use redsn0w 0.9.4 with 3.1.2 Firmware fies
and ultrasn0w 1.2 for unlock

Update :
About updating to 4.1
ur most likely get Error 1015 which is ok snice u cant Downgrade the Baseband..
just kick ur self from the Auto Boot loop with iReb/Tiny Umbrella and iOS will load usual

But the problem I'm having now is that the baseband has already been upgraded to the ipad BB (6.15) so is it possible for me to still use 4.1 with that BB?

What are the steps I have to take in order to restore it to 4.2.1 or 4.1?

I try run the 4.1 restore through itunes and I run into the 1015 error, does that mean the restore wasn't successful or just that itunes doesn't recognise it as being successful?

buddy your restore is successful if u got 1015 error. and yes you can still use 4.1 with 6.15bb not to worry at all. Buddy can u pls. be more specific with "itunes doesn't recognize" Just wanna know now what is the exact problem you are facing.....?

I have jailbroken with redsn0w 0.9.6b4 using the original apple 4.1 firmware.

After I did, the cydia icon in the menu was white, and when I ran cydia, it was in the "initializing filsystem" screen for a while before completely freezing.

Also, Whenever I unplug the iphone from my computer it freezes after about a minute or so

So you restored your phone to 4.1 via iTunes, got the 1015 error, ran redsn0w and used the 4.1 ipsw to jailbreak and install Cydia, nothing else?

Then you let iTunes se the iPhone up as new, you did not resore from iTunes backup I hope

Nope I didn't let itunes restore after I did the jailbreak this time, however I did let it restore my old settings after the first time I went from 3.1.3 to 4.2.1 though (Will it be a problem??)

The problem I have now is
A) Cydia won't work (shows up as a white icon)
B) Phone freezes upon unplugging from computer

Cydia showing up as a white icon should only happen on 4.2.1 - you are talking about this happening to you on 3.1.3 now??

I have a similar problem. I jailbroke my 3G using redsn0w 9.6b2 from the 4.1.2 firmware. As I was updating from Cydia, the phone crashed and would not get passed the boot screen. I tried to restore using iTunes and it gave me the error 1015. This has become an endless loop even after following the instruction from apple. I learned about the SHSH Blob too late and don't have it stored anywere. Is there a way to restore this phone?
