iOS 4 and a broken iPhone
Over the past few days I have been thoroughly frustrated at myself. You see by some ferocious folly of the fates, my iPhone and my kitchen sink were destined to be together. This is good news and bad news. I can now get the iPhone 4. But, I'm left with a broken 32gb iPhone 3GS. After letting it sit out in the sun for a few days it worked once more... mostly. The screen is messed up but it still works, and the home button is busted. I upgraded the phone to iOS 4 before this accident. I figured I was screwed but realized there must be some sort of app which can simulate the home button through jailbreak! Indeed there is but the problem is I cannot jailbreak the phone. I cannot get into DFU and I cannot restore to any other IPSW image. When I try to restore to a PwnageTool custom iOS 4 restore file it just hangs at "Preparing iPhone for Restore". So, I can get iOS 4 working and thats it. And I know I can't downgrade without getting into DFU.
Oh, also, everytime I restart the phone it gets caught in the restore loop so I have to use iRecovery to take it out. Can anyone help me jailbreak this thing?

bury it in a bowl of dry rice for 48-72 hours and it will suck all the water out of the inside of the phone. the sun won't do it. should fix your home button and your screen completely.

Thanks for the suggestion. First thing I did was leave it in rice for about two days. But I'll try again it's worth a shot.
Bonus: Simce restoring all my backup settings, the restore loop is gone again. Strange.

Bump: Well, it's not working. The screen isn't as marred but the home button is still broken.
Now, can anyone help me?

the problem isnt the phone being fried... it's the battery being wet that short circuit everything. If you would have taken the iphone apart ASAP, and spray everything with alcohol or something to take the water out FAST, and get a new battery... I think you're phone will still work. But now I think it's too late for that :\
