IOS 4.3.3 Jailbroken firmware 04.10.01 (upgrading to IOS 5)
I have a jailbroken 4.3.3 firmware 04.10.01 iphone 4 which I jailbroke about 3 months ago. Recently my phone is crashing a lot and respringing on its own.
I want to upgrade to IOS 5 now. I need to know , how can I save the current IOS 4.3.3 so that I may come back to it in case. My iphone 4 is not unlocked yet. Should I unlock it first and then go for upgrade(BTW I dont really need the unlock as I stay in Japan and Softbank service is really good)? Is the unlock possible , if yes can someone provide me the link.
Can some one give me step by step guide into this. Will jailbreaking be easy on IOS 5 or should I stick to my present IOS for the time being? Any help would be appreciated.
We need to clear up some terminology differences first -- unlocking has nothing to do with the version of iOS that Apple is letting people install and is an issue separate from anything else you've asked. If you're on iOS 4.3.3 with a baseband of 04.10.01, there is no software unlock for your phone at present. The only choice would be to use the Gevey SIM interposer, which is a lot of hassle if you're already using it on an authorized carrier anyway.
With regard to restoring back to 4.3.3, to help you assuage any fears, you should do some research on SHSH files. Search through the forum, I've described them in great detail several times in the recent past. The SHSH is what controls your ability to restore back to iOS 4.3.3. Before you do ANY upgrading, you should download iFaith and use it to retrieve partial SHSH blobs from your phone running 4.3.3, this will help ensure you can downgrade back to 4.3.3 again in the future.
Jailbreaking iOS 5.0.1 is very simple, you just upgrade to iOS 5.0.1 and use redsn0w to jailbreak. At this point it's a stable jailbreak, though they haven't published the fix for iBooks yet, it will be available very soon.
