Default iOS 4.0 and 3.1.2 backups??

Hi all. I was freshly jailbroken and unlocked on my 4.0 on the iOS fine but since I use itunes to restore my backup from which I still had my 3.1.2 on the fone, I noticed that my game center just disappeared, and my multi-tasking isn't working properly. Every time I double click on the home button, I get nothing but the clear transparent bar at the bottom.

Did restoring from back up messed this up? Also if I don't restore from previous back up, how would I get all my phone numbers, text messages, videos and pictures onto this new 4.0?

Please advise because I think I will have to restore this again...

I restored to 4.0 on my factory unlocked iPhone 3GS before I performed the jailbreak. I never had Game Center, I had heard it didn't make the cut. After I restored from my previous backup my proximity sensor was behaving weird, the screen wouldn't come back on after I was finished with a call, which I fixed through a jailbreak and manually uploading my address book and SMS databases using SSH. As for multitasking, I've found that there is some problem with Winter Board that interferes with the task manager, multitasking still works it's just the task manager that doesn't. Do you have Winter Board installed? Try removing it to see if the task manager starts working again. Hope that helps...

just out of my curiosity: did you make a manual backup before restoring to iOS4 or you managed to extract those files from iTunes backup?

Yeah also curious. It seems that part of the backup format in iOS 4 changed and at least the mac utility for reading iOS backups iPhone / iPod Touch Backup Extractor has not yet managed to decode the new format.

I did not backup before hand, probably should have. I restored to stock 4.0 and had the proximity sensor problem that I mentioned in my earlier post. At first I thought it was a glitch in 4.0, but after jailbreaking 3 phones for friends with no issues with the sensor I decided it was possibly because of my backup. This is how I performed my backup.

Like I said I was on stock 4.0 on my factory unlocked 3GS:

    1. Performed DFU restore to 3.1.2, got error code 1015
    2. Performed DFU restore to 3.1.2, again. Got 1015 again, stuck in recovery mode.
    3. Ran redsn0w 0.9.4, it crashed at "running activation script."
    4. Performed hard reset (home and power until reboot) booted to recovery.
    5. Restored to custom 4.0
    6. Restored my backup
    7. Installed OpenSSH and downloaded my database files
    8. Restored to custom 4.0
    9. Setup as new phone.
    10. Installed OpenSSH uploaded the database files.
    11. Rebooted.

    Everything is working fine now.

Also, WinterBoard has been updated and my task manager is now working flawlessly.

Hope it helps and wasn't too confusing. If you have anymore questions please feel free to ask me.

thank you for the clarity but now I have a problem wit the photos folder in iphone. When you plug your iphone into the computer, your can use windows explorer to view whats in your iphone as a storage drive, and the folder is DCM\100APPLE is where your images are stored. But strangely now mine is some weird 80AAAAA folder. I then go into the iphone using SSH into the Media\DCM\folder and see that there is a 100APPLE folder but is empty so I drag alll the pictures I had saved to it and assign it 0777 then restart the phone, still doesn't work. Then I assign it 0775 but still doesn't work.

Does anyone know how I can get photos to be in there?

Do you have a passcode on your iPhone? Try connecting the iPhone via USB then typing in the passcode on the iPhone and finally opening the DCIM\100APPLE folder
