like a lot of people down here I have an hacktivated iPhone 4.
The device has been hacktivated + unsimlocked + jailbreaked in 4.1 with pwnagetool.
I don't have an original SIM card from the provider where the device come from (it's coming from a foreign country).
I have wifi push notifications working.
Edge / 3G ones's ...i don't know and won't upset me cause I have no cell data plan.

The thing that upset me a bit is the FaceTime activation failure.

How about copying the FaceTime app (??+ related libs??) from an iPod Touch 4G and installing it on my jailbroken iPhone 4 in order to be able to FaceTime with an email address ID instead of a cell number ID.

Do you think something like that would be do-able or is it just a stupid idea ?
Would there be another way to use FaceTime with an email ID on the iPhone 4 ?

There's a heap of checks in the facetime routines to check for correct activation. It's nowhere as simple as copying in a different binary.

I'm sure it is possible though.

As far as I understand the build process for iOS (and for examining some binaries and filesystem tree), the binaries for a given ARM platform should all be the same, no mater what device they are in. That said, the FaceTime App in the iPhone is the same code as the app in the iPod, so copying will not work.

Like other components the code will test the iDevice type and model when it's executed.

That's what I was thinking, others have patched the system to activate FaceTime in middle East countries, the HDR feature for the iPhone 3GS,etc... I don't know how this is done but if it's a shunt of that kind of type&model test or a temporary modification of the type&model values in memory, perhaps there could be an entry point for this FaceTime thing too.

Now let's hope someone with hacking skills will dig into this.
