iOS 4.0.2 can be jailbroken with any of the current jailbreak tools except for jailbreakme.com. Plug the phone into iTunes, make a backup to ensure you have one, get your 4.1 SHSH on file just for future use, and use greenp0ison to jailbreak. If that fails, try limera1n. It shouldn't be too difficult for you. The biggest problem you face is that if the jailbreaking attempt fails and you must restore your OS, you need a 4.0/4.0.1/4.0.2 SHSH on file or you will only be able to restore 4.1. Since it's a 3GS, you cannot easily block the baseband update to 4.1 without using something like PwnageTool (TinyUmbrella will not suffice for this on a 3GS).
To be clear, here's everything I'm saying:
1) You can jailbreak, easily, using greenp0ison or limera1n.
2) You are in a somewhat dangerous spot, as a failure to jailbreak that leaves you in permanent recovery mode will force you to upgrade to 4.1. Upgrading to 4.1 will lock your phone's baseband (if you are using a carrier locked phone) and you will not be able to unlock.
Make a backup, then back up your backup just to make sure. If you're uncomfortable with any of the terms I used, I recommend very strongly that you research them until you have a clear understanding of what you're doing, what I'm talking about, and what the process for this will be -- you've got a working phone right now, but if you take any missteps in this process and you require an unlock, it is very possible for you to cause yourself undue problems.
