    Default Gevey Ultra Sim

Just curious what you guys think of this new Gevey Ultra Sim? Apparently it doesn't require dailing 112 so therefore its not illegal. Might consider buying it anyone have anything bad to say about the Ultra Sim?

It's not clear that it doesn't dial 112 at all. Many news sites (and retailers) have picked up on the "you don't need to manually dial 112" and assumed that means the unlock doesn't need to dial 112 at all.

It looks like this new geveysim requires you to install a Cydia package (which I suspect runs in the background and automatically dials 112 when required).

More information is needed, but my instinct is that this is a "smoke and mirrors" solution. (albeit easier for the end user, behind the scenes nothing has changed)

Yeah i kinda agree with what you said Olethros, but do you think it will just use 112 once, so it decreases the chance of it being detected?

why did they make you have to dial 112 seems a little silly. why not do 123456789 or something.

No it will still dial 112 every time the iPhone loses signal or shifts to a different PLMN. So pretty much the same degree of detection.

The only factor is that it hangs up as soon as possible after dialling 112, which slightly reduces the impact on the emergency services number. The negative is you need to be jailbroken (unlike the previous GeveySIM which could offer an unlock without jailbreak)

As per the forum rules, we cannot recommend any of the current generation of SIM Interposers designed to work with the iPhone 4 as they are illegal in pretty much every country except China.

because they are exploiting a feature that is required to be added to all mobile phones (you can dial 112 without a SIM card inserted or even with a deactivated SIM card inserted).

This is the universal emergency number, so it MUST be available to everyone - even if they haven't got a valid SIM card.

I just looked at furiousmod.deb. Among other things, it sends ATD112 followed by ATH to the modem. That's Dial 112 and Hangup.

Besides, their website is kinda honest: "Once you have installed [...] you will have no need to dail 112 and all other steps" (emphasis mine)

Thanks for checking out what the Cydia package actually does and confirming my suspicions.

If you read and understood what we've written previously on this topic you would know that your question has already been answered.

We will NEVER recommend gevey SIM to anyone wanting an unlock (unless they are in China). It is illegal and we cannot/will not recommend illegal solutions on hackint0sh.org

My advice has always been the same - if unlock is important to you - plan properly and purchase a "contract free/factory unlocked" iPhone. That has always been the ONLY way to guarantee that your phone will always remain unlocked.
