GEVEY SIM OR UNLOCK YOUR IPHONE 4 on ios 4.1 & 4.2

some chinese guys has announced gevey sim for iphone 4 which is supposedly unlocks iphone4 with 4.1 and 4.2 firmware.

as i know this company had already announced such a product for 3G
and it worked well.

There has been zero verifiable proof that this isn't just a factory unlocked phone.

The only thing that adds some sense of legitimacy is that this company did offer a sim product back in the pre iOS 2.2 days.

Lets see how things pan out before we start advertising this as a solution.

somehow I don't quite believe there's a universal unlock for all iphone 4's basebands just yet, if that actually works there would be millions of people swimming oversea to get those sims. I think somehow the guy install the methods of unlocking from those great people out there into those sims and it would work just like you would do it manually (my guess anyway...)

now that 4.3 is out.. is there any news on the unlock for iphone 4 on 4.1 with 2.10 & 3.10 baseband ?

I heard it can lead to a IMEI ban using this method... probably just best sitting tight and wait on a proper unlock or the green light from someone who knows more about this!

This unlock *can* work, but it is very easy for Apple to block in a future baseband update. Also the unlock will be illegal in most countries (especially Europe) as it relies on abusing the emergency number 112.

Also, yes carriers can detect this (so it might work for a while, until the carrier detects you) and block your IMEI.

Redmondpie is not a reliable/trusted source of news, they report too much unsubstantiated rumour as fact. In this case, they are right - yes this does work - but there are more accurate sources of information related to this unlock.

No it won't (as I have said, it can easily be blocked by Apple and/or the carriers)

A) Don't threadjack, this was a completely unrelated thread and it's rude to do that.
B) No, no news on the unlock. You'll see it stickied or at least discussed in nearly all the forums when it happens.
