    Default Evidence of JailBreak?

I used blackrain on my iPhone 3GS a while back but upgraded to the higher baseband and could no longer keep the jailbreak. Now, my phone will not let me turn 3G on without loosing all signal. I've been told to take it in to see the 'Apple Genius' at their store to find out the problem. Can they tell that it's been used with a jailbreak?

There are several ways to tell if your device is jailbroken, if you're really worried about it, make a backup, wipe the device, and restore 3.1.2 or 4.0 if you have your SHSH blobs on file.

I would recommend against 4.1 as it has a new baseband for the 3GS and if I recall correctly it cannot be unlocked as of yet. This will get the phone back to 'original' / un-jailbroken state and at that point, so long as you did a shift-restore, all proof of your previous jailbreak will be gone.

Just make sure to do it to an older OS so that you're not upgrading your baseband to a version that can't be unlocked! (Unless you are on AT&T officially and have zero desire for an unlock in the future)

    Cheers for all that mate.

iPhone went back to the Apple store and they asked if it had been jailbroken previously as my custom carrier logo had stuck since restoring. I said no and they replaced the phone anyway.

Glad it worked out okay, the "stuck" carrier logo is usually because you made the choice to "restore from iTunes backup" instead of "set iPhone up as new". These options appear in iTunes the first time you connect the iPhone AFTER you restore the iPhone with an IPSW.
