    Default Error 10 during Restore

    Hi Everyone,

I am facing error 10 during restore process for firmware 5.0.1 and even 5.0.

How I am doing the restore process:

    1) Create custom firmware (5.01) in SnowBreeze and RedSn0W. I have tried both.
    2) Use iREB to put phone in Pwned DFU mode.
    3) Meanwhile start TSS server in Tiny Umbrella because otherwise I get error 3194.
    4) Open iTunes (10.4.1) and do shift+Restore and select NO_BB or SnowBreeze ipsw file.
    5) But 2/10 into the progress bar, it spits out error 10.

I have attempted with latest (10.5.2) iTunes but I get error 2500 and according to one sol'n It stops by upgrading from iTunes version 10.4.1.
I have also attempted this upgrade on different computers (all windows).

    Here's the error log:

    Appreciate all help..

    A) You need iTunes 10.5 to restore iOS 5, you'll need to upgrade. The errors you're receiving are not related to the version of iTunes you're using, except that iTunes 10.4 CANNOT restore iOS 5. Upgrade to iTunes 10.5.2 again, you will not be able to go to iOS 5 using 10.4. I am aware you've tried this already, but there are other things impacting your ability to restore beyond the iTunes version.

    B) If you're getting a 3194 while restoring a stock firmware (even a no_BB one) this likely means TU has set a line in your hosts file for gs.apple.com. Make sure TU is set NOT to set hosts to Cydia on exit, and make sure you've removed any gs.apple.com references in your hosts file. Also, you should NOT be running TinyUmbrella's TSS server, as you CAN NOT restore iOS 5.x using SHSH yet, it will not work. Attempting to do so will (at best) just kick you back to where you where, but can also end up wiping the device and bootlooping.

    Aren't you the saviour?

I followed your instructions and it worked.
    That a ton.
    I have one query.

I am using Gevey Blue (Supreme) to unlock the phone,
I get the network, but somehow 3G doesn't seem to work.
I've put settings in MMSC, APN and MMSC Proxy field from my carrier but 3g won't light up on the top. It worked in previous iOS. I have all of the three settings (Enable 3G, Data Roming and Cellular Data) enabled in network option.

Hate to say I'm not sure. What is the baseband revision on the phone? You had said you blocked the baseband update on 5.0.1, and if so, you should be able to Gevey SIM and get both 3G and EDGE. It should work on iOS 5.0.1 with no issues so long as you've got the old baseband... I hate to post when all I have to say is 'it should work', but unfortunately I don't know of any known issues that would cause that behavior.

I had earlier done entire phone reset, but that didn't work.
Today, I performed network settings reset and it's working now.
    I am on 4.10.01 btw.

I have a questions about firmware signing(?)

    1) Does Apple let you download your shsh blobs or you're to dump from TU/iFaith?
    2) I've attempted to make custom firmware for iOS 5.0.1 from iFaith, but it'd throw error if I selected NO_BB file.
However, it does make signed ipsw from factory firmware. If I selected factory firmware over NO_BB, would it upgrade baseband?
    3) I've noticed there is software update in the iOS. If I upgraded from 5.0.1 to 5.0.2 from the phone, would it update baseband too?

    Appreciate your help

    1) Apple only provides valid SHSH responses to the most current version of iOS available. This means that as of this moment, you can ONLY get iOS 5.0.1 SHSH from Apple. You can grab partial SHSH blobs from the version of iOS that is running on your device by using iFaith, and you can grab stored SHSH blob files (if any exist) by using TinyUmbrella and telling it to download the SHSH files on Cydia.
    2) You can only restore custom no_BB firmware in "Pwned DFU" mode, which you can engage by using either redsn0w or iReb. Regular DFU mode or recovery mode will not work, the phone will just bootloop. If you selected the factory firmware instead of the No_BB, it absolutely would upgrade your baseband.
    3) If you upgrade from 5.0.1 to 5.0.2, it will update the baseband, and there is no present jailbreak for iOS 5.0.2 released. We recommend NEVER upgrading to newer versions of iOS until you can do so safely -- e.g., by blocking the baseband to protect your unlock, and only upgrading once jailbreaks and jailbreak tools are available. Jumping the gun is a very good way to lock your phone in a state that it can't be unlocked, and to upgrade yourself into a corner where you cannot jailbreak. We can't stress enough that people should not upgrade until it is safe to do so, it's nearly the worst thing a jailbreaker or unlocker could do.

    Hi All

I was trying to upgrade to iSO 5.1.1 and ran into an error 10. Now my iphone is locked in a recovery loop.

    iPhone 3gs
    Baseband: 5.13.04
    4.1
    jailbroken & unlocked
Was preserving the baseband with custom IPSW for 5.1.1
Was trying with an earlier version of iTunes but based on what I read above i upgraded to 10.6. But cant get out the loop with Tiny Umbrella to try to restore under iTunes 10.6.

    Help please.

    Thank you
