Somebody asked me to find him 3GS 16GBs unlocked. So I bought 3 of them from different sellers. After unlocking and delivering the phones to the dude. He didnt have a better idea than "Erase all content and settings" why? he said, I wanted to start fresh. And yea, I did restored them before unlocking so I dont know what he was trying to do anyways.

Details: All are old bootrom

1- 3GS 16GB 4.1 05.13.02
2- 3GS 16GB 4.2.1 06.15.00
3- 3GS 16GB Pwned 4.2.1 05.12.xx

Now before attempting to do anything I wanted to seek advice. I guess 1 and 3 should have a pretty similar procedure to have them back running and unlocked. But I dont know what to do with the one that has the iPad bb.
Do I just restore on DFU to Pwnage cooked firmwares? They have to be 4.2.1, right?

For 2 & 3, as they are old bootrom, you should be able to use pwnagetool 4.1.3 custom IPSW to restore 4.2.1 on there (don't select activation or to install Cydia). Then jailbreak with redsn0w (this will install Cydia). That procedure will prevent baseband update or baseband error and so on...

For 1, if you have a 4.1 SHSH, you could also restore to 4.1 pwned IPSW with pwnagetool 4.1.2 or use the same approach as for 2&3

Cooked a new 4.2.1 - Unchecked Activation - Cydia wasnt even there to uncheck so I just cooked it.
Since the phone goes straight to recovery I did as you instructed. Hold both buttons till it turns off, counted 5 sec. then released power button till it popped up in iTunes.
Tried to restore. Error 20008. (I didnt even know there was such error)

Cydia was there but when I tap on it, it just quits itself right away.
I tried Re-jailbrake with Redsn0w 0.9.6rc7 and now Cydia does load up.
Unlocked with Ultrasn0w 1.2

Ok. I have another one now, another erased. I still dont understand this dude but here is the situation.
Stuck on the Apple.
NEW bootrom.
I restored with the same firmware.
Same Cydia problem.
Re-jailbreak and seemed like it had the same problem of Cydia quitting right away. So I just re-ran Redsn0w but this time I checked 'Just boot tethered for now' followed to the process and whala!
Ive searched about untethering it. There is a guide to Untether it using greenpois0n. But before trying it, I wanted to as you if you know about it and if it does untethers new bootrom 3GS's?
