Downgrading from iOS 4.2.1
yesterday my boyfriends friends "accidentally" upgraded his iphone to 4.2.1, which he did not want. i'm not sure what version he had before 4.2.1, but now i'm just trying to get his phone back to any version except for 4.2.1 because i am trying to jailbreak his phone to recover lost data cuz his friends also "accidentally" put his phone into recovery mode and he has not backed up his phone since July!
i know you're supposed to have the SHSH blobs saved for the version you want to downgrade to, but unfortunately i do not have it!
is there any way around this? we're desperate to downgrade his phone! thanks
btw he has an iPhone 4

Are you sure it is recovery mode? Does it say "slide for emergency"? If so it's not in recovery mode.
You can exit recovery mode with Tiny Umbrella - if the OS is still intact.
