Downgrade 3G 5.13.04 on 4.0.2 to 3.1.x
My 3G is unlocked and JB via Redsn0w and blacksn0w. It ran bad before the sn0w mods and I want to downgrade to 3.1.x. How do I go about doing this? As I understand- 3G only needs SHSH for 4.0 and higher - you have no restrictions on restoring to iOS 3.x?
I don't have easy access to a Mac so PC method is only likely solution.
Iphone 3G
version 4.0.2
firmware 05.13.04
BTW did Apple ever fix the bugs on OS4 with the 3G? I'm guessing they did, but it cant be unlocked or jailbroken.
Thanks

You can't be unlocked with blacksn0w with that baseband, you must be using ultrasn0w for unlock.
I don't own a 3G iPhone, but reports are - with correct activation - iOS 4.1 and 4.2.1 run quite okay on the 3G, with comparable speed to 3.1.3
You can simply downgrade to stock 3.1.3 and then jailbreak with redsn0w 0.9.2 (or 0.9.4) - be sure to use a 3.1.2 IPSW when redsn0w asks for one. Then install ultrasn0w.

I tried to downgrade to 3.1.3 via itunes using the shift restore method and this must be incorrect because I got an error 1015.
Now Im in recovery mode and cant simply reload 4.0.1
Please help with any suggestions about what can be done. Maybe I was supposed to use Pwn or something?

This error (1015) is common when downgrading iPhones and 3G-enabled iPads. The problem occurs when the device has a baseband with higher version number than the baseband in the firmware you just restored to. Just use TinyUmbrella to exit recovery mode.
