    Default "Different Sim Detected"

I have a 3GS of new bootrom, and locked to the orange UK. I have 3.1.3 4 and 4.01 saved on SHSH. firstly i jail broke with Spirit. On activation, with orange sim (as i am outside of UK) the phone displays "waiting for activation" and after unlocking with Ultrasn0w when i put a different sim, its allows incoming calls and SMS but the screen gets locked to "Different sim Detected".
I updated to 4.0.1 and ran the new jailbreak and unlocking today but still am stuck with the same old screen of "Different sim Detected"

Anybody has got a similar problem?

    Any solutions?

Restore your iPhone to 4.0.1 (not update) - set up iPhone as new.

Activate as you did with orange sim.
    Run jailbreakme
    Install ultrasn0w
See if that fixes the problem

I usually download the firmwares and then restore it holding the shift button.
    it didn't help

Is it because the orange sim here doesn't catch network??

isn't there any option to get out of this?

Did you see the bit about "- set up iPhone as new."

That is the only thing I can think of that can help.

You should not need the orange sim to catch the network - it is enough that it gets you past the "slide for emergency" screen.

If you want to be able to test this properly.

Make a copy/zip of the iPhone backup before you restore and set up iPhone as new. See http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766 for the location of this backup directory.

This allows you to later on restore from this backup (with all your SMS history and application settings) if the set up as new did not help.

Setting up a phone as new will overwrite any existing backup. That is why it is important to take a copy before hand.

Or if the set up as new did help - then you can use a program that can extract files from the saved backup and manually restore any files you really need via SSH. Like sms history.

I'm stumped - jailbreakme and spirit should do hacktivation - that was my understanding of how they worked.

To clarify - the order you did this was:

    1. Restore OS
    2. Get past "slide for emergency" with orange SIM
    3. Jailbreak with Spirit or jailbreakme
    4. Install ultrasn0w 0.9.3
    5. Insert other SIM
    6. Different SIM detected
