check offical unlock before upgrate 3.0.1 to 4.x and how
hello
i'm not sure how to proceed, so i need some help and advice!
my 3gs is still on 3.0.1, with the old bootrom and more than 2 years old, so i could offical unlock the phone via itunes over telekom online service.
i now wanna know if the offical unlock was successfully cause then i can upgrade to the current ios without any hussle and cogitations.
if the offical unlock wasn't successfully i also want to upgrade to the highest ios possible, but then i need to jb and unlock again.
so what's the easiest and safe way for me, to 1. check if the offical unlock was successfully and if not, how to upgrade to which (the highest & most stable) ios?
i'm on mac, so is pwnage the choice 4 me?
any help would be very very helpful!!!
thx alot and kind regards

Quick way to test is just to insert a SIM from a carrier that the phone wasn't locked to. If it activates when you plug into iTunes and you get service, the phone is unlocked. Just make sure you aren't using ultrasn0w for an unlock now or you may confuse yourself into thinking it's unlocked when it's not.

aviegas posted details on a safe way to trigger re-activation without restoring. I've linked to that thread a few times, so search around for it. This is very useful for testing if your phone is truly "officially unlocked"
Be sure to remove any passcode before attempting a re-activation as you may be forced to restore otherwise.

Good catch, I had missed this post. I'm assuming this is the one you're referring to:

ok, i got cydia reinstalled and followed the instructions from aviegas. but itunes said the sim card isn't supported :-(
does it make sense to restore or is it safe, that the phone isn't already unlocked by apple, although the telekom online service said that apple is notified to unlock the phone?
thx again

If iTunes says the SIM insn't supported, then it's not factory unlocked (yet)
Can take a few days for Apple to process the unlock request from your carrier.
