Default Can I jailbreak an iOS 4.1 phone to iOS 4.1 without baseband changes?

This is a two part question.

If I have an iPhone 4 with iOS 4.1, can I jailbreak it to the same OS version, or can I only jailbreak to iOS 4.2.1?

If yes, can I do this without baseband changes? (Baseband is 02.10.04).

Edit: This phone hasn't been jailbroken before, and has no SHSH blobs stored.

Yes.. you can jailbreak 4.1 with redsn0w, greenpois0n or limera1n (not pwnagetool - as that requires 4.1 SHSH) but if you install anything from Cydia that causes your phone to no longer boot, then you have no option but to restore to 4.2.1 (because you lack 4.1 SHSH)

So to make sure I understand correctly:

    - I can take an iPhone 4 with iOS 4.1 and have it jailbroken with iOS 4.1 (with all the caveats you mentioned).
    - Jailbreaking in this situation doesn't require updating the OS version.
    - The 02.10.04 baseband won't be updated by accident when using redsn0w, greenpois0n, or limera1n to jailbreak, since the OS isn't being updated.
    - Baseband updates are mandatory with iOS updates.

    Are these correct?

    Yes (but not pwnagetool)

Not entirely correct, baseband updates on the iPhone 4 can be prevented by restoring using TinyUmbrella's TSS Server function.

iOS 4.2.1 has an extra check during the restore which prevents the restore from completing if the baseband wasn't updated. This is the first iOS version to include such a check. It can be bypassed via pwnagetool custom IPSW (no official solution for iPhone 4 yet) or via an as yet unreleased update to TinyUmbrella
