Bring back the 4.0.2
Hello.
My friend has erased all content and settings from his iPhone 4, running iOS 4.0.2. It was unlocked and jailbreaked via limera1n. Now he can't turn it on. I tried to restore it via redsn0w but it kept saying "unable to recognize IPSW". He did not save any SHSH. Is there any way to fix it?
Thanks.

If he has no SHSH, he is out of luck. Erase all content and settings wipes the operating system off the phone -- this is an extremely common problem and it is recommended that jailbreakers do not erase all content and settings unless they are 100% certain they have everything they need to restore a jailbreakable OS (e.g., SHSH on file, etc.)
Without an SHSH, the best he really can do is restore to the current iOS revisions -- I do not believe Apple is still signing 4.1, but it's possible. If not, he'll be forced to upgrade to 4.2.1...

iPhone 4, 32GB (iOS 6.1.2 | evasi0n | SHSH: 4.0 - 6.1.2)
iPad 2 3G, 64GB (iOS 6.1.2 | evasi0n | SHSH: 4.3 & 4.3.3 - 6.1)

Thank you. I have unlocked his iPhone and had no idea that he would do this kind of thing, I asked him not to update the iOS, but he found another stupid way to turn his iPhone into a brick.

It's a very common issue so I can't say I'm too surprised -- Apple doesn't make it clear that it completely wipes the phone including the OS, we definitely get this as one of the more common questions around.
