Block restore and update on device side
I'm looking for a way to stop any restore and update on my jailbroken iphone 4.0.1 from the device's side.
For older versions, to stop updates I've seen where you can do
"chmod a-x /usr/libexec/software_update"
but there is no /usr/libexec/software_update even though Services.plist has this as a ProgramArguments under com.apple.mobile.software_update.
I'm hoping there is an easy way to just change the permissions on either a directory or file to cause the update/restore to error out in iTunes, but I'll listen to anyway you may know of.
In a little program I'm being notified when the USB is attached and detached so if you know anything I can do in code would help also. Like if a certain notification happens do something, etc. I can make a change when attached to usb and revert the change when detached.
Thanks in advance.

yes.. there was discussion about a patched iBoot that could do this. This meant you had to deliberately put the iPhone into DFU mode (or run a specific command via iRecovery) to restore.
Not sure if it ever was completed. Why it was probably never released was that implementing it this way would mean a tethered boot for new bootrom (including iPhone 4) devices (not desirable)
