Hi, I had iphone4 v. 4.0.2 w/ baseband 1.59 but custon firmwared up to 4.2.1 and now have baseband 03.10.01. i want to keep the phone, jailbreak and unlock it. i have patience but im a little worried there will never be an unlock for it. Ive heard about upgrading BB to 6.15(IPAD but there are risks, gps error) or downgrading to 2.something because the lower the better and easier to exploit. Its also rumored a new os should be coming out this week or the start of the next week. Hopes for a unlock then? any Idea on what i should do?

iPad baseband - this does not and will never work for the iPhone 4
If you had done proper research you would know that the work on finding a new unlock for the iPhone 4 only started about a week ago (active investigation started on the 30th of November). How long it actually takes to turn the crashes that they have into an unlock is hard to know. My guess is more than a month.

Then the question is: when is it strategic to release ?? If Apple is rumoured to be releasing an iOS 4.3 soon (supposedly to incorporate a subscription feature) then it would make sense to wait for that. However the iOS4.3 thing is still just a rumour (not heard of any public 4.3 beta period - so I doubt that 4.3 is close [if it will happen at all])

The previous strategy for the iPhone dev team has been to release one new unlock a year. I'm doubt that this will change with the iPhone 4 - so worst case - next July - best case late January.

I want to know what do you think is best for me to do, since they are signing the updates now i have BB 3.10.01 but i am doubting they will make a unlock for that because its uncommon(at least i think)i think if i update my phone right now i will go up to 5.xx which will leave me with the original BB im supposed to have and this would make more sense. Is there another way to upgrade baseband accurately? Should i keep my baseband? Or update while i can ? Do you think theres a chance they wont come out with the unlock at all ?

You cannot go to 5.x.x - the only baseband with that number series is designed for 3G and 3GS (also technically iPad)

The baseband chips are a different type in the iPhone 4 and baseband updates designed for any previous iPhone model will not work.

Stay where you are.. be patient and an unlock will eventually arrive.
