4.0 upgrade without baseband?
is there any way this is possible? i just found out that something is wrong with my iphone because i cant upgrade the baseband :/
so does anyone know if this is possible?
i have 3.1.2 baseband and if i can just switch the 4.0 baseband files with that i will be in business
and on a side note. is there anyway i can manually upgrade the baseband? Or check to see whats wrong with it?

there is a thread about extracting and manually upgrading baseband. You simply need decryption keys for the ramdisk and an up to date xpwntool.
As for avoiding baseband update. I think you need to patch the whole chain of trust to be able to load a modified ramdisk. I am not 100% sure though. I know you need to do this for the rootfs

The dev team have not released an updated PwnageTool and as of now, it is not possible using any known public methods.

thanks guys
the reason i was asking is because my baseband wont upgrade. after i upgraded to 3.1.3 my baseband is frozen at 3.1.2 and i always get a error 29.
and 4.0 with a 3.1.2 baseband makes the phone crash after 10 mins of use.
so anyone got any suggestions why my phone is doing that?

Yes it has been reported that new baseband is not compatible with 3.1.2
An error in the 20s like 23 or 29 often indicates a problem that can't be fixed via normal software baseband flashing techniques.

Does it work right now at 3.1.2? As a phone? Wifi etc?
Post your iPhone restore log on pastebin and we might be able to help.

On a mac it is Code:
~/Library/Logs/iPhone Updater Logs/
On windows it is (from memory) Code:
%AppData%\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Updater Logs\
Open the most recent log (that failed) in a text editor, copy the contents and paste it to Pastebin.com - #1 paste tool since 2002 then paste the URL you get in this thread.
