3gs old bootroom upgraded to 4.0 problem
i got a 3gs with bootrom 359.3
until today it runs 3.1.2 unlocked perfectly.
trying to install 4.0 i did this:
- upgraded via itunes 9.2 to a 4.0 original firmware downloaded 4 days ago
- made custom firmware with pwange tool
- when i try to restore with the custom 4.0 firmware itunes says error 1600 (both recovery mode and dfu mode)
i didnt save the ecid/shsh stuff (i dont know much about this issue) can i use another iphone´s ecid to downgrade?
what did i do wrong?
thanks in advance

unless you have your shsh backed up which you dont theres nothing you can do to jailbreak until new jailbreak is released so join the club

Why cant the shsh be backed up locally anymore? I have the same issue and now the phone is stuck in recovery mode and not getting out of it. Tried recboot and still not getting out of recovery mode.

you did wrong because you upgraded to 4.0 on itunes..
you can back up your 4.0 shsh... but thats not much use now is it you need a 3.1.3 or less shsh backed up in order to downgrade from 4.0
googs - if you have 3.1.3 or less shsh backed up you can restore to that there is guides. if you do not then you have to restore to 4.0 and wait.

Yep, that's exactly it. For some reason people are forgetting that the only reason you can flash a custom firmware on your 3GS is because the LLB has been pwned by PwnageTool or redsn0w. If this has not been completed (or if you are running a stock, factory firmware), you cannot restore a custom firmware to the device.
Without a 3.1.2 or 3.1.3 SHSH on file either locally or with saurik's server specifically for YOUR DEVICE (and not someone elses, they are NOT interchangeable), there is very little you can do at this point other than wait for the proper tools to come out that will jailbreak a "virgin" 4.0 iOS 3GS.
The reason the SHSH can't be backed up is because Apple is no longer signing 3.1.2 or 3.1.3. They are only signing 4.0. If you want a more in-depth idea of what that all means, check around, it's described in detail in several threads. Ultimately, to save you a search, if you don't have a 3.1.2 or 3.1.3 SHSH today, you CAN NOT OBTAIN ONE. No matter what anyone else says, it's just not possible. You can't get it. You'll have to wait.
Good luck!

OK, then your issue isn't the same as the OP -- this is why we don't like threadjacking. Put in a new thread with your specifics and we'll troubleshoot.
