Default 01.59.00, sometimes takes MANY power cycles before I get ultrasn0w carrier signal...?

I never posted this, because I'm sure everyone was having the same issues as I was. Today my iPhone 4 shut off, I think my case pressed the power key and my "tap" theme cause the phone to power off... ANYWAY: when I powered it back on I kept getting no signal bars.

I had to power cycle MANY MANY times before I got signal again. I tried airplane mode on/off, kept getting sim failure. I tried respringing, that didn't work. After about 15 minutes of power cycling, I finally got T-mobile signal again... its just a nuisance more than anything else...

Is this normal? or have I been doing something wrong all this time???

YES: I'm unlocked on ultrasn0w (1.2.3 I think -- whatever newest one is)
    YES: my BB is 01.59.00
    YES: my fw is 4.01

i posted something similar to your situation. i have fw 4.0.1 and baseband 01.59.0 sometime when i power off the phone i do not get an signal and i had to re-install ultrasn0w and power cycle more than once to get signal. i can't identify a pattern and was hoping to hear from someone in this forum about this behavior. so far, no one comments on this.

Definitely not only you two. I've had this problem since I left for Saudi Arabia. Everything was working fine until the second month in where after awhile I constantly had problems with "You're not connected to the Internet." Powering off usually resulted in the device showing "No service." It would take a number of times to finally get service. The problem is less apparent back in the states unless I go into a building where my signal is low. Then again sometimes while transfering data on 3G I'll find myself looking at a No service message.

Oh, and the "Invalid Sim" issue as well. "Sim Failure" has happened a few times too. Usually when I would pop out the sim. Which is another issue, often when I found myself with the no Internet message I would pop out the sim for just a split second. Any longer and I'd lose service.

I'm not sure the cause but it's definitely a bummer. I almost updated my baseband a few weeks ago just to see if that would fix it. If I deploy again I'll just buy an officially unlocked iPhone.

I remember having similar issues on early 4.x firmwares (can't remember which ones exactly).
However, ultrasn0w works pretty well on 4.3.x; except for that: http://www.hackint0sh.org/f242/166867.htm#post652471
Upgrade wisely, using custom firmwares (PwnageTool) to avoid touching the baseband.
