Default Wacko 2g: headphone mode w/o headphones, headphones = ringer

Okay, so lucky me. I got 6 2gs from a repair store who didn't fix them. Swapping some parts got me a working 8gb, 2 working 16gbs and this one. However, this one's got a quirky feature: it has the classic "ringer (headphones)" problem, yet when I plug in headphones, it switches to standard ringer.

It's not the jack - I tried a different rear assembly.

I haven't restored because I can't get iTunes to use my custom firmware, and I don't want to risk getting 3.1.3.

I tried plugging in and out a bunch as well.

What other options do I have? This is seriously annoying me.

Update: restored iPhone with headphones plugged in, no resolution. Going to try plugging them in and removing them during the restore. Beginning to think this is a motherboard issue (drat!)....

Alright, it gets stranger. I swapped backs again and now I can get it to stay in standard ringer mode. But only in the clock app - as soon as I go to the phone, it goes back into headphones mode. I restored it 3 times, jailbroke it, messed with the settings... I'm at a loss of what to do.

    Hey MistGray,

This usually happens when you've been using your phone for a while. Try cleaning the headphone jack with an earbud.
