    dude 00 is the international access code FROM YOUR country to the destination.
    it might not be 00 when calling from e.g. the US.

    Mine mobile number added fine without any codes... It has something to do with MMS... when I first tried to send one, it complained that my number wasn't completed... so I added it and bingo!

    Number formating in the iPhone follows the "locale" set in "Regional Settings". Therefore the same number may format differently depending on the language used for the interface. The only exception is if the number starts with a "+". In this case it will extract the country code from the number and use the rules for that country to format the number.

    So the most appropriate way to enter the number is to include the "+" to ensure it will ALWAYS DISPLAY CORRECTLY.

    For example: a NYC phone number, say (202) 222-3344 can be entered as:
    2223344
    2022223344
    12022223344
    +12022223344

    If the interface/regional settings is for US English, all will format correctly. But if the iPhone is owned by a German that happens to live in NYC and likes his phone in German, only the last on will diplay properly.

    But the Own Number interface in iPhoneOS 3.0 does not handle the "+" (cannot enter it).

    As I said before: that is the IDD (International Direct Dialing access code), that varies from country to country.

    Any phone number anywhere may be written/dialled according to the followings rules:

    a) "+" + "country code" + "area code" + "local number"

    b) IDD + "country code" + "area code" + "local number"

    c) NDD + "area code" + "local number"

    d) "local number"

    IDD = Internatina Direct Dial
    NDD = National Direct Dial

    Without these rules, international dialing would not be possible.

    Of course, you can just copy your number from your contacts app and paste it in the my number field, incl. + 00 34 whatever...

    Bingo! Works! It's quite easy to forget that now we can rely on copy-n-paste.

    aviegas, you can simply write 0012022223344 and your german friend will correctly call from all the world to this NYC number (NY included).

    + or 00 - country code - area code - local number!!! this is the standard and it will be recognize everywhere!!! also by your iphone 3g with 3.0 fw without using copy and paste!
