    Default Problem with SSH into phone

    I thought I couldn't SSH into my iPhone because I had changed the password and didn't remember it anymore. However, after trying to change the password in MobileTerminal, I realized that it was indeed set to the default pw (alpine).

    So what am I doing wrong?

    In Cyberduck or FileZilla, I open a new connection:

    * SFTP
    * Server: copy the IP address under Settings > Wifi > My Wifi connection. Mine is 192.168.10.198.
    * Port: 22
    * Username: Root
    * PW: the password that I just chose.

    In Cyberduck, it gives the error "I/O Connection Failed. Connection timed out"
    In FileZilla, the error is "Server unexpectedly closed network connection. Could not connect to server."

    What am I doing wrong?

    It could be either that your computer can't actually access that IP (is your computer also on the same wifi network, does it have a similar IP?)

    Have you restored your phone since you first used these tools?
    SSH exchanges unique keys when you first connect to your phone, these are saved by the SSH app on your computer and if you restore your phone and reinstall OpenSSH then this will generate new keys, the idea is that the SSH app should detect this and say "Warning: Remote Host Identification Has Changed" or similar.
    Some SSH apps just report an error and refuse to connect. I suspect this is your problem.

    You're on a mac right?

    Open terminal (in the Applications/Utilities folder) and type
    Code:
    rm ~/ssh/known_hosts
    Then try again.

    Thanks for replying. Yes, my iPhone and macbook are on the same wifi network. And I have restored my phone since I firsed used these tools.

    I did what you said, and nothing happened.
    Code:
    No such file or directory
    is what I got.

    Sorry, I missed a dot in the command
    Try this one:
    Code:
    rm ~/.ssh/known_hosts

    I did. Twice accidentally (second time around it gives the No such file or directory message again).

    Then I tried connecting to my iPhone. Same problem.
    Code:
     I/O Error: Connection failed
    Premature connection closed

    So now it's working! I had previously attempted to reinstall OpenSSH without complete success. Every time I would, Cydia would finish the installation but also give me some errors along the way. I don't know if it was because I played around with Cydia a bit or what, but this time reinstalling OpenSSH did not give any errors. After that, I was able to connect to my iPhone.

    So.... .... Yeah.

    Thanks.
