    Default Permanent brick possible?

I've read all over this forum as well as others...but is there a way to permanently brick the iphone?

I find it hard to believe that it isn't possible, coming from a WinMo HTC phone...lol

Though, how would a boot loader get 'deleted'?

The only real way that phones can be bricked is if something goes wrong during flashing new firmware.

As the previous poster stated, DFU mode - which is in hardware - gets you out of most firmware flashing problems.

The cases I have seen are where flashing the baseband or baseband bootloader has gone wrong. This was more common with the 2G phones. A phone with corrupted baseband or baseband bootloader cannot make or receive calls or use wifi/bluetooth. This required hardware hacks or physical communictaions board swaps to fix.

With 3G phones, only a very limited number of early 3G iPhones have the ability to downgrade their baseband so a permanent brick of baseband bootloader is rare.

I agree with you. By flashing new firmware the phone can be bricked. 3G have little capability of downgrading their baseband. That's why baseband can not be broken so easily.

Bootneuter is for 2G only. On 3G/3GS use redsn0w to jailbreak and activate and ultrasn0w to unlock

You can brick your 3G iPhone by using any of the 2G tools on it.
Apart fro that it is very difficult to brick.
You can render it unlockable by upgrading to 3.1 without preserving your BB though.
